Sorry, pal but it seems you don't understand elogs and I'm wondering if you are even using them. You aren't "loosing" any hours. Say I shut down at 4pm. My 10 reset is done at 2am but I am for sure not driving; I leave when I'm ready to although if I had to I could go at 2am. Also, you will NEVER get 3-4 hours sleep before a 12 hour (?) drive unless you choose to stay awake for 6-7 hours of your 10 hour reset. You seem unclear on the basic HOS rules so it's not surprising you dislike elogs.

What you will get, assuming you wish to run legal, is no more rounding off to the closest 15 minute mark. It's surprising how those few minutes here and there add up. Next time you see a truck bail off the truckstop exit at full speed and stop on the off ramp only to creep along the rest of the way at under 15mph you know there's a driver on elogs who switched off the driving line to save a few minutes. You change status by pushing a button or tapping a touch screen, when it happens, so you aren't trying to fill out a paper log much later and forgetting you were stopped eating lunch for an hour or was it an hour and a half. You will also get the advantage of not having to calculate an 8/2 split sleeper. The elogs will do it for you. You just have to be ready to go at the 8 hour mark because most of the systems don't make any notification other than suddenly showing remaining 11 and 14 time.

I hated the thought of having an electronic nanny when I came back on the road but I actually like it.

i watched what i thought was a super trucker and his trainee last week--walking by the guy has a mean look---bandana---dark shades---fingerless gloves--chain drive wallet---and big ### boots(was like 100 degrees that day--foot oder must be viscious)--and then this little nervous looking professor type following him----hell was i wrong--the tommy trucker was the trainee and prof was trainer---guess you cant tell a book (or supeer trucker) by their cover

No, my company sits back and monitors all the BS on the qualcomm.

For me, that falls under the "driver harassment" issues that prevented the current mandatory requirement.

I stopped at 4 Pm on friday and laid down by 4:45. I could not fall asleep until 9:30 PM. My start time was at 2AM. My appointment time was 8 am 6 1/2 hours away.

your company can expect you to start at the end of your 10 hour break and mine does. When it does, your start time is pulled back every night. I am not the only driver that has this complaint.

And please don't tell me I don't understand the HOS. You have not discussed them with me nor do you know how I run.

So while it is not completely in the webster definition of "loosing", you the driver are loosing out because the pressure is put on you to run when it's legal according to the 11/14 hour clock.

What you describe sounds more like poor trip planning either by you or your company. What A21CAV was saying the that your 14hr clock doesn't start immediately after your 10 hrs are up. E-Logs don't have anything to do with poor planning or company expectations.

My company plans 14/10 hour days for us. We run for 14 hours, we break for 10 hours. At the end of our 10 hours, they are putting us on duty and planning our next load.

As we run the week out, if they see us constantly pulling our 11 hours and getting done well before our 14 hour clock is used, they reset their schedule on us. So if I am running 12 on-duty and taking 12 hours off duty, they will pull my schedule ahead 2 hours and I loose those 2 free hours I had.

So while I am a hard runner and SHOULD be able to enjoy my free time, I can't.

I know when the 14 hour clock starts. When I first MAKE it start during the day. My company expects it to start within 1/2 hour of when my 10 hour break is over. Past that and we start to get qualcomm messages and beyond an hour, we get a phone call unless it's apparent we are waiting to make a scheduled delivery.

And that isn't MY issue. (well it is, but not ppp on my part.)

THAT to me is driver harassment.

Calm down.I have'nt seen what truckers have said that offended you.But im sure if things get too out of hand the moderators would have put a stop to it right away. With the internet things get misinterpeted the wrong way and was'nt meant how it sounded. We have all been where you're at.I try to answer the best I know how and not offend anyone but sometimes it does'nt turn out that way and I do apologize. You better have thinker skin if this is what you wanna do because you're going to find alot of truckers out there that you may not like what they have to say.

Same here. I've not had cross words with ANY truck driver I've met.

In all the other Walks of Life I've done, it was usually on the first day or so.
