That's funny, I hear it is the o/o cutting each other's throats and driving rates down. It happened in ND too when everyone swooped in without a plan thinking they were going to get rich. And so you get you facts straight, the pumpkin doesn't move water around in these parts.JahB Thanks this.

Hi, I'm going for cdl training at continental school in Houston , they seem very helpful. Any suggestions on an entry level driving position with a company in Texas? I have heard so many negative comments about trucking companies that hire newbies . I'm almost having second thoughts ! Please help. This site is awesome. Thanks guys!

How's it going so far?

Don't listen to all the negative vibes about trucking companies who hire newbies. You need to consider you are new and don't have a lot of choices. If you listen to some of these truckers with more experience you will hear crap like "you don't belong" or "you don't deserve to get that job" or "you are being taken advantage of". Truth is no one was born a supertrucker and I have yet to meet one! Just do your best to learn all you can then find something you want to do and apply. Don't look at just the $$$ either. I knew a few people who went to a flatbed right out of school because they started at $.40/mile but what they failed to consider is flatbed is hard labor, not just driving. Think about where you see yourself in a few years- do you want to live OTR all the time because some really like the adventure? Do your homework and find what it is you want to become then plan the route for yourself!

i think i'll take the 40 cent a mile and hard work as a rook vs the 25 cent a mile doinking youll get from the pay yur dues rookie route bs.
just go to the oil field and get paid and tell the otr rookie scam world to go f themselves.N172 Thanks this. -
Amen brother, tell it like it is.

The oilfield pays per mile? I just got a job up in ND, with less than 2 months driving experience, starting at $25 an hour w/ housing provided...sure beats this 28 cents a mile I'm making now.

A local guy in Oregon owns some trucks up there. Said " how are you supposed to get experience if nobody will give it to you?" so I got the email yesterday saying the job is mine, if I'm interested.
