Yeah I am a newb but if/when I do decide to go O/O route I will have to go through all the mess and trial and error to find quality brokers, through loadboards and whatnot.
Good luck, and Semper Fi

Nobody has even approached the subject of utilizing social media to get your name out there. I'm on three trucking forums, have a company facebook page and am on 10 facebook pages related to the industry where we can advertise who we are and what we do. Have any of you ever considered this as an avenue to get yourselves out there to good brokers and start working with them?

As a driver I understand all the negative comments to your post. When you find a gold mine you don't want a gold rush on it before you have gotten all your gold first. However now that I'm a broker I wish there was a thread like this. Maybe not one with Rates in it but one that says hey this broker works with you. Good credit, pays on time good communication and constant loads. The problem is the driver wants to keep the gold mine to himself but is only in the gold mine a few days out of the month or a few weeks out of the year.
I can tell you from the broker side the more carriers I have the better prices I can get from the shipper and the more I can pay the carrier. If I can keep there shipments moving on a constant basis so they only have to make one phone call the more they are willing to pay because it is easier for them. For example I have a customer who recycle pallets ships them Nogales, AZ to ship them to Mexico. His rates are dirt cheap and unreasonable. When I first started trying to move his loads he would pay me $1000 for a load from Bakersfield, CA to Nogales, AZ I found 2 carriers will to do the load for $900. I wasn't making money and neither were they. Put they wanted to get back-hauls back to AZ to run more produce loads. They refereed a couple more carriers to me for back-hauls and soon was moving el chepo's freight constantly on a daily basis. Once that started happening I called him back up negotiated with him better rates and the possibility of moving more loads a day for him. With better rates more carriers and am now moving several loads a day 6 days a week and 2 -3 loads a week from other location nation wide. He is still on the lower side but is at least fair and I have back-hauls to offer carriers to get them somewhere to get good loads.
Like I said I understand keeping it under raps the people who made the most money in the Gold Rush days were those who came to feed of the gold miners. Many brokers are like that but there are some who are in the mines with you.Seabass521, Lady K and rollin coal Thank this. -
I rather dead head the 150 miles to fontana and get a 1400 run to phoenix. Its gonna be trial and error if your just starting out. Theres money to be made. Get a truck if you can and get to it lease onto a landstar if your just starting out theres 1000s of brokers out there even the good ones have crap rates sometimes. You xan get good rates from a broker with crap loads if they need it moved bad enough stop pulling cheap freight all the time if your n uhh mer is 2.75 and you get a load for that to an area that pays crap up the rate to compensate or keep looking
