Lease Purchase vs Company Driver

    Another great thing about buying from a place like "Lone Mtn" is that as long as your making the payments, you can do pretty much anything you want with it. I called and asked this question specifically. You want to put upgrades on it, you can and when the last payment is paid, its yours. I may get my truck through them, there way is the only way I will do it, or pay cash outright.

    I got all excited after ya'll mentioned LONE MTN LEASING...........trucks looked good, I was all pumped until...........
    I went to "ripoffreport.com" and see that they have numerous very recent serious complainants...........
    so now I don't know what to think about Lone Mountain!

    RipOffReport can be pretty biased. I know a couple of people who have gotten trucks through Lone Mountain and have had a great experience. Remember that the people complaining are probably the same drivers you meet hanging out a truck stop or a terminal who blame all their problems on anyone and everyone else.

    hahaha.........you're probably right......we all know the type you're talking about!
    I'd love to get my own truck this year. If there's more money in your pocket every month how can you lose.....I mean, after all, we're here to make money, right?

    I am also looking into Lease Purchase USX. Drove for them for about 5 years as company driver. Been off the road for 1 year now. Got the itch again for the open road. They say they only have 2009 Cascadias for lease purchase at this time.
    Anybody got any experience with those?

    It is a good truck. They are all autos. For some that is good, for some bad. Miles are 450k to 500k with new rubber and a 300k warranty

    Thats good. Some dont like the auto but i love it. Dont ever want to drive a stick again.

    There is a tale on this forum somewhere posted from a woman, her and her husband had a real bad experience with the truck they bought from LM It seems they made some mistakes. Buying a truck, any truck, is no different that buying a car except that it is bigger and falls under some DOT rules.. So, when you purchase your truck, from whomever, check it out thoroughly and get it checked out by a certified mechanic that you know or someone suggested for you. If something is found, take it back to LM, they will fix it for you but you have to take it back to them.

    To each their own, no 1 truck is perfect for everyone. But remember, if you are going to drive the mountains of the great west, even to some extent the east...

    If you have a catastrophic failure in an automatic in the mountains, then you wont have engine braking or a low gear to hold your speed. I am aware of several 1st hand stories of both situations, those who kissed the ground in their automatics after a failure in the mountains, and those who thanked God that they at least were able to hold their speed down because they were in a lower gear.

    Just something to consider

    Catastrophic failure in any critical system would be bad in mountains. Personally I would be more worried about a steer tire blowout in mountains than the auto failing.
    I drove and automatic for 5 years through rockies and apalacian mountains (spelling/) with no problems. Some have the mistaken idea that this is a fluid drive transmission like your car. Not so. It is the same trans mission as a manual but with air actuators to do the shifting for you. And with the Ultrashift it also handles the clutch. Some drivers may forget it has a manual mode to allow you to select your gear and will not shift until you select another gear. This is what i used in the mountains along with engine brake. Always felt extremely confident in the equipment. To each his own I guess but after driving sticks and autos I will never go back to a stick. Just takes a load off the driver. Especially in heavy traffic (NY,NJ, Atlanta, or traffic jams) it is a blessing not to have that clutch pedal. Happy trails all.
