I've filled out two online applications for Co. sponsored CDL school. The applications where pretty much the same. They ask for employment history for the previous three years including any gaps. The both stated to then list any employment that involved driving a company vehicle as commercial driver for year 7-10. Pretty straight forward. However I was just reading the FMCSA driver requirements and in states 10 years of verifiable work history are required.
It seems the two don't jive. What's the story on providing work history for years 7-10?

10. Just provide 10. List any unemployed dates as well. If you were unemployed without getting weekly benefits, you may be asked to have someone who knows you sign a "witness statement" to back it up.

Sound easy, but not really. Years 07-09 I operated my own business, and I wasn't friends with the tax man. I guess I could have a statement from the contractors board if need be.
I still don't understand why the schools are not asking for it in the first place. Seems it would save a lot of time for everyone if the Fed's require it.. -
The way I thought it worked is the trucking companies must summit 3 years verifiable work history(whether you were employed or not) to DOT if you have no commercial driving experience in that 3 year time span,if you have had commercial driving employment in that time than they must summit a 7-10 year work history.

Ok, that makes sense. I could be reading the requirements wrong as well. Here they are for anyone thats interested.

Is a company sponsored school your only choice?

Yes, it's my only option.
