I got these two books from the MTO (brake and truck) I am wondering about the content though of this beginners I supposedly need before driving school. A lot of the information in the books is pretty obscure if you have not been in or worked with a rig. Does anyone know what this beginners entails so I can bone up on it?

Have you finished your written yet ????

You will need to attend a class for air break where they will explain you how air system works in the trucks and then you will be given a test once you pass that you will receive a certificate from the school and off you go

You have to do your written A class before you go to school. Study and then go to a drive test centre. I wrote my AC since in ON the C class is a given when you do the A.

No I have not done any tests or gone to school yet. I am going through the Second Career program and was told that I had to go and get my beginners truck license before they will process my application (apparently this is a requirement for folks in southern Ontario but not northern Ontario for why no one seems to know). I went to the MTO and got two books they told me to get, one is for air brakes and the other a general truck driving book. Some of the information in these books is a bit obscure for someone that has never been in a rig before so I am wondering what exactly the beginners written test is all about so I know what to study up on...surely they cannot expect me to know questions about the trucks since I have no experience at all. I thought it was going to be the other way around and I was going to go to the driving school then write all my tests but instead I have to get my written beginners first.

They put on a training course and exam for your Z ( Air Brakes ) endorsement at a lot of the community colleges.

You will find both books really helpful, the truck book will set you up for your written which is mostly common sense questions. The air brake is a little more involved, I did a full day in class and then a written followed by a practicle test. The written is fairly easy once you have read the book and sat in on the class. The practicle will be a bit harder, you need to know and be able to verbally identify the air brake system on the truck as well as doing a mark and measure and test the system for proper air pressure and safety issues such as leaks etc. I know it sounds overwhelming but if you study and really try to pay attention to the instructor you should do fine. I started school on a Saturday and that's when I did my Z on the Sunday. I had what I thought was little or no time to prepare but I made it and so can you. Good luck.
