If you choose to take the 172 hr program prepare to be treated like a redheaded stepchild, The ones who take the 6 month program are the favs! They also will tell you(Paula) that they will call you every week to ask if if you found a job and if not they will help you, Its been 6 weeks and she only called once, I called 11 times and always got her voicemail with no reply back!
We had really good instructors, but if you are going to rely on them getting you a job GOOD LUCK!

Hi Ed geim I went out for a visit last week and Paula tried talking into the 6 month program. She seems pretty fake. The school seems like a rip off but there isn't much of an option in the pittsburgh area. Witch program did you take the 1 month for 6 month? Was the training worth all that money? I want to get my cdl but I am concerned about what is school to choose. Any info you could give to help would be great. As far as a job Schneider has a dedicated route with Walmart. They seem like a good starter company and they help with tuition reimbursement. If you go to their website they have a list of jobs. I hope that was of some help I know it is hard right now with the economy being so bad so good luck! And if you can give me any info on school in the Pittsburgh area I would really appreciate it.

Ben I'm starting with Scneider this week in their tanker division, training is in coraopilis(sp) Their walmart account runs out of Wintersville Ohio(near Weirton) and goes out west. If you startwith schnieder do the fast card and hazmat asap, takes 4-6 weeks to process
I took the 172 hour program, its hard to find a job at first, everyone wants 6-12 months experience, so the only choice is to get with a company OTR at first.
Two choices in Pittsburgh for schools, All-state or PIA, All-state is accredited and PIA is not and only teaches 4 people at a time. All-state did teach us well and taught us how to drive and pass the tests, the 6 month program goes really slow, if your a quick learner go with the 4 week program,
Message me for more info if you need. Good luck and hope us both make good money -
I have an appointment to visit All-State on July 5th and wasn't even aware they offered a 6 month program. That will not be a consideration for me as I will most likely be quitting my job before starting school and 6 months without a paycheck just won't cut it. I may look into the weekend only training, is it 172 hours too? By going with the weekend option, I would be able to continue working and pulling in a paycheck while going to school. I am also looking into Schneiders tanker division...how long is the training in Coriopolis and how long with a trainer?
-
6-months is on weekends only. Schneider is 10 days long, and I think with trainer for 10 days.then back for review.
BronzeLion Thanks this. -
Ohh Hopingtohaul, Dont do the 6-month, waste of time, they teach you to pass the cdl, One all-state graduate in my training did the 6-month and he doesnt know how to trip plan or paper logs,in 6 months in school you would think they would of?
-
Thanks for the heads up ed...yeah you would think you'd be better prepared going through the 6 month course just because everything isn't thrown at you all at once.

Hi Ed, I was hoping you could give an update on your training with Schneider? I am also thinking of going with Schneider's tanker division and any insight you can give will be much appreciated. Are you going to drive otr or will you be staying local working the Marcellus Shale? I visited All-State yesterday and was talking about my plans and they more or less told me that Schneider's tanker div. in Coraopolis trains you for work in the natural gas industry. Told me I would most likely only drive when needed and I would spend most of my time laboring at one of the wells! I don't know if there is any truth to that, but if I wanted to work as a roustabout on a natural gas well, I would go to school and learn the trade...know what I mean? Hope things are going well for you...keep us updated! Oh, btw, she also was very pushy on the 6 month course too...must be some sort of $$ incentive for them!

That's kind of odd. ASC teaches Trip Planning, Logging, and Hours of Service as a 40 hour module in the classroom, as well as requiring logs be kept for the entire 14 weeks the student is on the range. It's not the school's fault for his shortcomings.
But then again, a wise man once said: "You can't fix stupid".
