Hey noble truckers/ mechanics, I got a bit of a situation here, that is making me loose my hair. For quite some time i was hearing a bit of sputtering from the engine when Idling real faint sound. But recently its getting somewhat louder and annoying. It is not hindering performance truck runs good. I took the truck to a mechanic and he checked the injectors and all of them are good. The engine surges as I try to rev it up to 1000 pressing the pedal slowly as soon as engine speed hits one thousand, it revved all the way up to 1500 without further pressing the pedal. And then its starts making that sputtering noise if i start letting off the pedal. If I accelerate past 1500 the noise goes away. Please help I am loosing my mind over this, does anybody experienced this situation before? Thanks in Advance!

Symptoms make it sound like a bad pedal assy.
-
is that the sensor on the side of the pedal? this makes sense as sometimes when I downshift and hit the pedal it does not respond and suddenly the engine bursts like if I am holding it to the floor. wont this cause a code though?
-
Yes, the TPS sensor on the pedal, but the pedal itself wears and if you choose to replace just the sensor you may still have a problem. They can set a code but not always. The engine speed sensors can also act this way and not set a code. There has also been problems with the wiring harness getting chaffed at the rear of the cylinder head on N-14's.

Pedal sensor or waste gate on turbo. Only two things that cause that. If you don't get a "burping" sound with the sputter, it's the pedal sensor. If it was the harness, you would have more problems than stated.
Take a volt meter since pedal sensor is a potentiometer. Use it on the millivolt setting. When you slowly press the pedal, you should see a very slow change in the numbers. If the numbers jump at all, or drop off, sensor is bad. If numbers are steady, but never reach 2 volts, change pedal assembly. In shop, we usually change both as a unit and that covers warranty minimum.thesvg Thanks this. -
I am going to try that tomorrow, Luckily my friend has an extra pedal I can do a switch around to try if it will go away.

Sometimes my pedal will be unresponsive, I know its that throttle sensor. It doesn't happen often and its been like this for yrs... It just one of those things.

Like bender said, I had same issues and turned out to be harness at rear head rubbed in clamp.

Check your fuel pump..
-
start with the more common problems the fuel from the tanks goes to a cooling plate and the through a check flow valve located at the upper left corner of the ecm where the fuel hose comes out and to the the filter. Clean that valve and blow out the passages in the cooling plate. if problem is still there clean the screen in your fuel pump, next replace engine position sensor(35$ part). problem still there change fuel solenoid(95$ part). then move to the more costly fixes, fuel pump, injectors ect. Also if you can recreate the pedal syptoms useing the cruise its not your pedal sensor.
