Any millis drivers out there have a cdl from Illinois? I'm taking mine this Friday. I feel pretty confident however I would love some advice from anyone who has been thru this in Illinois. I've been trying to get my trainer to do a pre trip with me ( I do it and he acts as the tester) but that has yet to happen. I have quite a bit of experience backing and parking trailers from a previous job. Road test should go ok. However any advice out there would be greatly appreciated. I know some of the things that are automatic fails but help with that would be great also. I know all states are different do please only give specifics on Illinois.

Just go to your local DMV and get a CDL book. In the back it will tell you whats all needed on the test... All the points for the pretrip, all the backing tests you have to do etc.

Its a breeze, the pretrip was the brake test and ONE part of the truck, For me she asked me to tell her everything about the tires and that was it.
The road test was maybe 15min.All wide open roads.
The skills test, Was a straight line back, a pull up and stop the nose of the truck within the marked box, An alley dock stopping the trailer in a marked box, And a right turn keeping your rear tandems as close to the cone as you can.
This was in West Chicago, Not sure its like that at all of them.
I was able to go there the night before and practice on the course
I made my appt. for a tuesday morning, With the place being closed on mondays had most of the afternoon the play around on the course.
Good luck, Theres nothing to worry about.

Take your time and really know the pre-trip, some of the testing locations are really tough on the pre-trip. Make sure you double-clutch.

    Good luck and drive safe!
