With 10 gallons in a new replacement tank, how long should it take to fill the filter bowl using the small hand pump in the engine compartment?

On an 08 IH 3200/DH466, how long does it take to fill the filter bowl using the small hand pump in the engine compartment? Tank is an OEM replacement w/ 10 gallon initial fill.

Usually you can feel the pump start to get harder to push when it is full. Have someone crank it while you pump, it should start no problem.

Heavy D- thanx for reply. If batteries are weak and I don't want to start cranking until the bowl is full, how long should it take to fill? Thanks.

I will upload a picture of what your engine should look like. Find item 6 in the picture. It is pointing to a schrader valve, just like the type on tires. Remove the plastic cap and get a small screw driver and push in the center pin. Pump the hand primer until there are no more air bubbles. This will make a bit of a mess as fuel will leak out of here when your are priming, so have a catch pail under the truck. Once the fuel coming out has no more signs of air bubbles, put the cap back on and pump the primer maybe a good 20 more pumps and you should be good to go!

Heavy D - thanks for reply and picture. I never noticed the schrader valve before. I installed a new lift pump and noticed bubbles in filter housing as if a hole was in the side of the fuel tank pickup pipe or a rat had munched on the line between the tank and the filter. Disconnected the last section of fuel line under the pass side entrance, stuck it in a 5 gallon bucket and still had no fuel reaching the filter housing. Seems like a defective [new] lift pump but when I shoot some starting fluid near the air intake, truck will start to run but nothing like 55 psi is leaving the schrader valve with it removed. Looks like 2 different problems. Injector pump is mechanical? Any ideas why I'm having these fuel pressure issues? Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Ok, lets start from the beginning, LOL! So this truck had some kind of starting or fuel problem before? You replaced the transfer, (lift) pump, engine still hard to start and now you notice bubbles in the fuel filter bowl? Sounds like it is sucking air. The 150 micron mesh strainer, strainer drain, and the quick connect fitting on the fuel filter housing are all on the suction side and possible points for air to get sucked in. I hope you installed new orings on the steel fuel lines to and from the fuel pump. I doubt the pump is bad. This is one pump we hardly ever have to change, but gets mis-diagnosed all the time. That engine also has a dead-head fuel system, meaning that there is no return fuel. All the more important to make sure any air in the system does get bleed out. Double check your fuel lines. I think yours has the plastic quick connect type of lines, check the orings for being worn or cut. Be careful, those plastic connects break easy. If you find nothing, you can to pressurize the inlet of the fuel filter housing where the fuel line from the tank goes in with regulated shop air of 20-30 psi or so and see of the housing is leaking anywhere.
