Unsafe Truck Drivers

    i'm very relaxed doing 80 in utah and texas.

    i can't stand cali, oregon, and washington. i can barely cope with idaho.

    say all you want, but driving slow gets on my nerves.

    It's not a matter of handling a truck at posted speed. The posted speed is the maximum allowed, not the mandatory speed.
    Are you gonna run the posted speed when the wind is blowing snow, or the fog is so thick you can cut it with a knife? No, you won't. You are going to run what feels comfortable to you. I don't care what speed someone else is running, as long as it is at or above the minimum and they stay to the right, unless passing.

    Ya know, I'd bet dinner on it, but back in march/april, there was a similar discussion with autocar making a very similar discussion where i said drive the #### speed limit.

    And i think it's still just as ignorant now as it was then that if you think someone saying drive the speed limit and stay with the speed of the packs is saying ignore the current travelling conditions,


    Then it's not worth having that conversation with you.

    My truck is slow. I stay out of the way as much as I can.

    For me, what I see isn't as much the speed of the faster trucks being a safety issue. It's the behaviors I see that go along with allot of them. Tailgating is #1 on the list. They are running the speed limit or above and if anyone is in front of them in the hammer lane it's right on their tail they go. There seems to be no thought of stopping distance or even a way out or around a situation.

    In the old days ( I hate to say that but I did) it would take some time to get those shinny 290's or sceamin' 318's wound up and rolling good. If someone slowed you down in the hammer lane you'd be stuck out there flappin' in the breeze.Now, it's just a matter of pushing on the peddle a bit stronger.

    There are very few trucks who aren't in someone's way. A faster truck or a 4 wheeler.

    See but there's a difference, in roads like texas and I think Kansas, they have those high speed limits cause you drive for miles without seeing another car and the roads are as straight as MJ's nose; with this said, the state chooses the speed limit ... in city areas for the most part it's 55, cause of the nightmare traffic; BUT we all know that when there IS NO traffic like at 2 in the morning it's absurd to go that speed. MAYBE we need to revise the speeding laws, but before we do that we need a lot more EDUCATION for everyone; truckers AND 4-wheelers.

    A truck or car traveling above the minimum and below the maximum limits is being safe. And so long as they stay in the right lane they are not a roadblock. They may inconvience you, as you go speeding past, but they are being safe. Put down the phone and the CB, watch the traffic ahead and don't box yourself in because you were not paying attention to the traffic around you.

    Good point I forgot to mention which I practice everyday! "not boxing yourself in" - learned this by another truck driver. You can't always have the safe following distance but you MUST ALWAYS leave yourself an out!

    I am a car hauler the only kind of truck I have ever drove cant see myself doing anything but hauling cars when it comes to trucking......

    A truck or car traveling above the minimum and below the maximum limits is NOT being safe. it is creating an obstruction in one lane that is forcing others in the roadway to have to navigate around. More so the slow vehicle than the fast.
