Actually, it's bit more nuanced. The benefit is paid on a pro-rated basis based on length of service. The maximum benefit is $1104.
The payment rate will be as follows:
- You will receive 100% of your applicable MHA during the first 6 months of training
- 80% of your applicable MHA during the second 6 months of training
- 60% of your applicable MHA during the third 6 months of training
- 40% of your applicable MHA during the fourth 6 months of training
- 20% of your applicable MHA during the remainder of the training
You may also be eligible to receive BAH at the E-5 rate for your locale, which is also on a pro-rated declining scale. Emphasis on 'may'. The VA's literature is pretty vague on how a Vet qualifies for BAH. -
Well, we don't know whereabouts you live, if you live near either's terminals or dropyards, that may shift the path towards one over the other. But, barring that, all things being equal, I'd go with TMC. Working for a flatbed company is different than working for a company with a flatbed division. Roehl is a starter company, and trains people very well, but their micro-managing drivers seems to cause burnout faster. many relay loads, which brings with it many times of restocking the truck with tiedowns and tarps. We're great at getting people home on time, predominantly because of the relay-load-thing. TMC, it seems in much more interested in disciplined drivers with some notion of individual effort. I would hope that leads drivers being left to their own devices.Last edited: Jul 7, 2012

Will i work for Roehl and i couldnt be happier with then ive been to a couple diffrent companies and making the move to Roehl has been the best choice for me they have great equipment most of their flatbed fleet are new international prostars u cant do any modifications to the truck without approval u can have an inverter installed by roehl if u like most of their securment equipment is new and keeps getting upgrated i run good miles at least 2500 a week plus u can take your truck home its up to u to find a safe place to park it wither its at a truck stop or your house they also have one of the best saftey records in the industry so i hardly ever get pulled into scale houses or get bothered by dot. If u have any questions about roehl ill try my best to awnser them

What does there initial training look like, and if you don't mind me asking what are you making weekly running flatbeds ,? And how exactly does the tarping pay work?

Roehl's training is 7-8 days of orientation and then 1 to 2 weeks with a trainer. Tarping fees are $22.00 for steel and $24.00 for lumber.

The training it made up of two stages level 1 is 8 days in a terminal first with a loacal trainer were he will go over everything from driving saftey load securment you will spend most of your time in a truck driving locally with him much like you did in driving school if the the trainer thinks your ready for level 2 u go out on the road with an over the road trainer for the next 14 days hauling actual loads were u will fine tune your driving and get a big taste of life out on the road at the end of the 14 days you then take a road test and pre trip test at a terminal after that u will be assigned your own truck and away u go .....now as far as money your paid by the mile u drive the more miles u drive the more money u make if your a driver expecting to be home every weekend that affects your pay myself personally i run 2000-2500 miles a week and i bring home $1000 a week but im an experience driver at the max pay as a student i think they start u out at .32 cpm witch is really good pay for a student in my mind some companies will start students as low at .23-.25 cpm you should be able to bring home 700-800 a week if your willing to work for it they are a good company and they have treated good like a family member not just a truck numbersly1 Thanks this.

And tarpping pay is 12.00 for steel tarps and 22.00 for lumber tarps plus we get paid 10/ hr detention pay and 60.00 a day layover pay also plus multi stop pay 15.00 for first 20.00 every stop after that and u get your tarp pay ontop of stop pay if u have to untarpat every stop

With tarping is the per tarping and untarping or is together as one payment? How man roehl terminals are there across the country and how are they? I know it sounds lame but I would like a company with nice terminals full of hospitality . I'm starting to lean towards roehl but I'll still probably apply to both when the time comes
