I think that I'm thinking WAY too much into this, but tomorrow I drive cross state for my orientation with Crete Carrier (which doesn't start till Monday, but they reserved a hotel for tomorrow night). At first I was head over heels excited about it, but now anxiety is starting to show it's ugly face. This is a totally 100% brand new experience for me. Now that I think about it I've only been out of state twice in my entire life both of which I was never having to do it alone. Yeah, I know I will be with a trainer (which is also nerve wrecking) but I don't know the person. So many things running through my head. Did this happen to you guys (girls) when you first started in the trucking industry?

It's a big change in your life, certainly something to be nervous about. And think of it this way, driving around the country, seeing all the new landscapes and sights, will be thrilling!

Drink some Sleepy Time tea, or take a Tylenol PM and get some sleep so you're not up all night fretting with worry and excitement. Good luck to you!

First off it's natural to worry a little, but you will do fine. Being with a trainer can be an experience, especially personality differences, but it will only be for a few weeks. And yes this did happen with me when I first started. Just take it all in, learn from you're trainer and ask questions. Also feel free to ask questions in here as well. Like I said before, it can be a little nerve racking, but you will be fine. Try not to worry too much.

It'll be a little scary but you need to lighten up some. The people at Crete aren't out to get you, they want to hire you and know you need some help. Just make sure your there ON TIME, and don't try to hide anything like speeding tickets, drug use ect.
Crete is a stickler on logs, learn them well and don't fudge. relax and don't try to impress them.
you have 2 ears and 1 mouth for a reason. BOL

I've been trying to relax. I mean I did go to school and get my class A for this very reason. I guess it just boils down to being the fear of the unknown.

Once you get there and get started you will be fine. It's always the time leading up to something that gets people understandably nervous. Remember, you are human!

JestCat, relax!! Everything will be fine. I am a 54 year old female, I got my CDL when I was 53. As of Sept 11, I will have 2 yrs in the business. I am also from Tennessee and I lived in Nashville for several years. Trust me when I tell you that if you have been able to safely negotiate Nashville traffic in a car, you have nothing to worry about, LOL You just have to get over your 'fear of the unknown'. You are setting out on an exciting new chapter of your life. You will be paid to see this beautiful country of ours, that's a great 'gig' in my book.

    Good luck and ENJOY!!!

I can understand you being nervous about it, but don't psych yourself out over this. Everyone who has been in this industry for years on end has, at one point, been the brand new greenhorn themselves. I know a lot of them like to claim they've been driving since the age of five (save for a few years where they casually did a stint in some super secret special operations unit), but don't get caught too deep in the BS. You have as much chance as anyone else. You might find out that it's not for you, or you might do very well at it - it's the same risk you take with every major decision in your life. Time will tell the outcome. Until then, keep your chin up, and go in with the attitude that you want to be the best driver you can possibly be. Pay attention, learn, and give it your absolute best.
    Best of luck to you.
