Still waiting to see an antique classic model truck get 9+ mpg pulling a heavy load?
Best I have ever heard of one getting low 8s with light loads driven conservatively and that is with alot of modifications done to it mechanically to get that. You guys are bragging about getting in the 7 mpg range with a classic when my aero truck gets over 9 mpg, rides as smooth, has more room and is a lot quieter than any of those fuel wasting classics. That is between $15K and $30K in fuel cost a year that looks alot better in my pocket than spent at the truckstops on fuel.alds Thanks this. -
What do you consider a "heavy load"?
Jake The Bullhauler Thanks this. -
Lets see you pull a oddly shaped, heavy flatbed load and see if you get 9+ still. Gotta remember, not everyone on here pulls a van

Fixed it...

If I was a company driver, those clorox bottles on wheels wouldn't bother me. Checking the oil is about the extent of working on the truck for large fleets. Saw a Pro star the other day & it was literally bottom of windshield, air cleaner canister radiator with EVERYTHING buried below it. I own a 385 Pete & while it is not a hood by any means, you access most everything. Cannot imagine shoving the engine back any further or having less room.
There was a article the other day about the number of complaints or problems per each truck sold. It was like 233 issues per 100 trucks sold, mostly emission/sensor related. Cannot find the link at the moment, but with all the additional emissions garbage they are pushing on the newer more fuel efficient trucks. You can bet you are going to spend it that savings on some tech plugging into the truck swapping expensive parts out. Down in the garage section there are posts all day long about fuel mileage not realized in the aero crap right along with the antiques.
So back to one of the first responses in this thread, why was this pot stirred again?poppapump1332 Thanks this. -
Right at gross legal weight of 80K.
I have pulled oversized/overweight pieces 12' wide grossing almost 90K and still got 7-1/2 mpg that had an excellent rate too, so you guys can drop the cheap freight comments because it is about making the most profit per mile and I believe I am as good or better of a rate negoiator than anybody on this forum. -
I do power onlys and pull flatbeds too! I have moved huge chillers and Commercial AC Units on flatbeds and step decks that an open unit is about the worse aero you can get.

And your truck also has a lot of modifications correct? If you are going to compare, than lets do apples to apples. What was your aero truck getting before all your mods? If I remember right you where in the 5's or 6's ?? My 379 with 8 inch straights is quieter than the last aero truck I had due to all the wind noise coming thru the doors and doing the same runs yes the MPG is down some but I will gladly trade that for the smother, quiter ride with better resale if need be. Not to mention that I don't need to add that DEF that always gets forgotten about when people start talking about the good MPG's from these newer trucks, whats that DEF burn at something like 20 to 30 % of the fuel burned?

9plus calling bs

I'd say the truth lies in..RESALE VALUE. Read 'em and weep, Dice.

Yep, everybody sure has figured out that the ol' long nose trucks are nothing but money pits, and UNPROFITABLE
...but somehow the prices they command don't reflect that!
