Are logs done up with Windows Paint legal?
What I do is when I am off duty a few days I just open up a copy of a blank log (already customized with my truck/trailer numbers and signature) in Windows Paint and just add text for the dates and off duty line. This way I avoid having to use the scanner. The paper copy ends up at the carrier's office as a .tif document anyway.
But I seem to remember some rule about it being in driver's own handwriting. Don't know if that's still a rule in the digital age.
I also do the same with my monthly maintenance recap.

don't know if dot would have an issue with esigniture or not. Shouldn't be a problem tho
-
My sig is my own, just a copy stored on my computer and pasted on the log.
-
they have programs on the internet that do this, they say its up to your company. I would suggest talk to your company

I like to do my logs with a crayon
DrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
I tried dong mine in crayon, but those crayons are so darned tasty! Especially dipped in paste! I kept running out of crayons to use on my logs.....
bullhaulerswife and dayzedandconfuzed Thank this. -
Logs must be written in blood. It's the only thing that they will accept any more.

I purchased a copy of the Eclipse log software for about $50. I print the previous day's log and DVIR, sign them and keep the last 8 days in my truck folder. Those are legal, so I don't see why the ones you create in Windows Paint would be any different as long as they contain all of the required elements in the correct format.

semi-crazy, they should be perfectly legal. the eclipse log program i use works the same way. i just enter the towns, dates etc, by typing on the keyboard, i then copy and paste my digital signature and print the baby off.
digital signatures have been deemed legal, the one i have is my own handwriting, turned into a digital signature.
i have been thru three dot checks, ga, ohio, and alabama and neither officer questioned anything about my logs.
there are some that say the signature has to be in your handwriting, but with paper logs the carbon copy is only a copy of your signature.
same as the one i do now, i am just furnishing the officer a COPY of my logs. first off all i ever have available is the last 8 days anyway.
you are doing the same as eclipse or drivers daily log computer programs, actually pretty neat you are doing yours with PaintCAXPT Thanks this. -
semi, eclipse logs could cut out doing them in paper and then redoing in paint. with eclipse you can fax them directly to the company, or send them tif like you do now.
