howdy,
I'm finishing my last couple days as a phase 2 trainee than will either team with whom is my trainer now or if we don't get along than off to the lease and.become a phase 2 trainer, for about 6 months than become a phase 1 trainer for 6 months than jump to another carrier (maybe) but im thinking if i lease and just run solo of I can make 300 a week after all the expenses Id be ok but if not than ill definetly train... I'm happy with the miles and the pay that I'm getting, no complaints at all...
I'll most likely do the demo lease, and probably will lease through my trainer but don't know yet ... Have a list of questions to ask....

If you lease, do so on your own, don't partner through him. The costs are the same and the profits are the same, except now he takes a cut off the top, shorting you. Also don't get the demo lease it comes wiht strings, ie after the demo period it turns into a long term or you hit the bricks ... instead look for a short lease, closing out one that someone has abandoned. The shorter the better. The advantage, is CRE will count it as a compelted lease for you and you get the completion bonus and can move on at your own terms.russellkanning and rednecktrucking Thank this. -
I think as long as CRE is trying to use you, they give you miles like doing the phase II and phase I training; if you don't they starve you out.
I am just hoping he can get a couple more good weeks in where I can get the land payment paid off so we don't have that to worry about and then just the house payment and other bills. Luckily we don't have credit card bills and things like that.
Out of all the DM's he has been contacted by for swap loads, etc, the one he has is a lot better, the person is an ex-driver I think he said; but sometimes complains about communication and when you communicate that was the wrong idea for the day, otherwise he is not pestered too much on where he is or what he is doing. He had one fairly new DM this past weekend send him a message that they were running late running the load, don't know how she figured that, guess she didn't have nothing better to do. -
I'm not sure if this is good for a dedicated run with someone the husband talked to or not, it would be on a dedicated run with around 5100m with a 5000m or so on the short week or weeks, has to be team and pays 48C a mile, split, using their truck. And there is a safety bonus each quarter. He's considering it.
It looks to me like having a reefer with the option of dry van would give you more options on loads, of course I am sure the reefer must cost a fortune more. -
While sitting, waiting for his home time to end, I made some decisions and came down to two options 1 be a local dedicated driver in California (my home state) or be a phase 2 trainer ..... Hmmm
Any comments or suggestions?

I hope you have some ice cream cake before you tell your trainer. He might break the other windshield.
Good luck as to what you decide. Remember that your exposing yourself to potential problems if you get a bad student to train is it worth the extra money putting yourself at risk for short term gain.NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
local
the guys I meet seem to like it
and I need someone in LA to deliver my loads so I can head for the rockies and plains again. -
Everyone has been pretty quiet on here, whatz up?

They all got fired???? ... But actually this is how it works. Everyone is all full of pee and vinigar after training and are all pumped when they first go solo .. singing the praise and the wonders of working with CRE ... then reality sets in.
Life on the road is tough, a lot tougher that they thought. Then running a lease isn't as easy as they were led to believe, it takes work and at CRE a lot more work than most people are willing to put in - especially since CRE has stacked the deck.
So, people quit, fail ... move on. And they have egos. It's the rare individual who can admit they were wrong or that they failed - especially after pounding thier chest about how they can make it work.
Be patient though ... soon a new batch of recruits will come on. They will drink the kool aid, take the blue pill, sing the praises of CRE and the cycle of life at CRE will repeat.Last edited: Jul 31, 2012

Sorry my laptop hasn't been able to charge, but now I have a inverter to charge it woot! I'll post my updates and so far I like it out here, I do run this as a business, I wear my dress shirts when I greet customers, or at England facilities which I don't like going to because you have upset employees who sit and complain... I'm solo at the moment with the lease option and I do manage it, I don't just go, I do a lot of spreadsheets to help me but so far its working out, everyweek ill post my settlements and spreadsheet screenshots. My friend may quit because its very hard to make money to support a wife, and two small kids, but it works for me because I'm single and love to stay out at least four months at a time.
I'll post an detailed update soon. I haven't had time because I've been driving, sleeping, driving, sleeping repeat.....,
