None of them hire drivers and they don't get involved in relationships between fleet owners and drivers. If you're going to be A driver you need to pick a fleet owner carefuly .

I believe the op knows that. Did not ask who is the best to work for. I suspect they mean as an o/o

Give us some advice on what to ask a fleet owner when thinking about going to drive for him?

What questions should a driver be sure to ask and what answers should he be sure to get?

    I wouldn't say nobody.

To answer your question, it all depends on you.

If your goals are to be rich and make lots of money with the "direction" of the carrier, then companies like FedEx, Panther and E-1 are great. If you want independence and a lot of leeway, then one of the smaller companies would be a good fit for you.

What to ask a fleet owner?

That's easy - do you have a contract?

If they don't - walk away.

IF they do, ask for a copy and read threw it. Make notes and get a set of questions ready to ask. I went to a lawyer and asked them to look at a couple and one of them sounded really good, but when she said the owner could hold back pay if he didn't get paid, that was a problem.

There are a lot of questions that are important but the most important is how the money is split up, normally there is a 60/40 split, with the person getting 60% paying for fuel and so on.

Basically it comes down to the same thing you would ask a fleet owner with a tractor - there really isn't anything special about this work.

How do you like it at J. D. Clark? Are you driving a straight truck for them? Solo or team?
