Before I quit I was starting to struggle for miles also, first week back from home time had 3200 miles, then for next 2 weeks a lot of sitting and around 1500 miles a week, sometimes only 700 miles in 4 days. I was originally gonna put in a 2 week notice, but the OCM in Denver wouldn't return my messages I left on Monday and Tuesday, nor return messages I left with 2 different dm's to call me back on Thursday, so instead told them I am dropping the load in Denver Saturday morning and cleaning out my truck. The first stop was due Monday morning in Denver and final stop in Utah on Tuesday. They wouldn't let me drop it and get something else to keep going, saying that there is no freight right now and also wouldn't let me go home for a day and a half telling me I had to sit and stay with the load all weekend.
Sure enough when I got to Denver there were lots of trucks sitting waiting for loads. They have been trying to hire lots of people lately but don't have the freight for them. They like to micro manage way to much, I even went as far as telling 2 dm's that like to do that to knock it off and I know when to send in a macro 19 and eta/pta and will do it once I can give them accurate information for eta/pta not first thing in the morning when they get in and I am still sleeping cause I stopped driving at 3 am. No one ever told me anything back, nor did the OCM when I called and tried to talk to her about issues with the dm's who only sit behind a computer and have never driving a truck or gone through anything close to what we deal with on the road.
Looking for a decent company, is May it?

Its been a night and day difference. I have all the freedom I want at FRE. My DM from May is over here, so that is a huge plus too. I don't regret coming over to FRE at all.
-
I am here also. I am happy to be here they are very organized here. The office personal are small in stature but pack alot of power in how things operate. All of them have been a driver before also a big plus. They been there so its easy to work with.
imo, this is a professional company that lives up a great image. We all take pride here. It shows in the office, trucks, equipment and apu's. I look forward to seeing how my miles go as to when i return from hometime as the other outfit always had me sitting or scraping by when returning.

Platinum means he is at FRE with me. Just to clarify.

I wouldn't work for may. When I started trucking I investigated them briefly and all the drivers I talked to near their home terminal told me I could do a lot better. If your comparing them to a bottom feeder company I guess they might be ok.
Your already local and if you can haul hay you can haul anything. You have experience and you don't need a year otr to get good job with a local outfit. Go to the phone book and craigslst, you already have what you need for a good job.hot.hogs Thanks this. -
I'll just say that other than miles (which have picked up a bunch for me the last few weeks, thankfully), I've been glad I started here. My DM was a driver, and I agree that is important. He doesn't micro manage me one bit, in fact, there are days when I don't hear from him at all. I just make sure to do my job. I've also not experienced the issues with idle time and Breakdown; not to say it isn't a problem for others. In short, I feel like I could have done a lot worse picking a place to get started. And, the equipment is quality and they keep it maintained, which is very important in this era of CSA. Will I be staying here forever? No, but since pay is jumping up pretty good for me next year, I may give them 2 years rather than one; if they keep the miles coming...

Joker, I DO NOT have to tell my dm where I'm doing my breaks. The only time I have been asked where I'll do my break is if I have a Lowe's load from Lebanon,OR.
-
I have never told them where I take a break, even on the Lowes load. Although, my DM usually tells me to run my hours as far as I can with those Lowes loads, but he has never expected me to say exactly where I am going to stop for the night.

Thanks for the replies guys. I guess I just need to start hitting the town going to the companies direct instead of trying online. kinda hard though pushing 60 hour weeks, I get off so late everyone is already gone for the evening. Just need someone to give me a chance haha. Kinda wish the farm did more hay runs, those were tons of fun to do, and the pay was great, .75 per mile!
Joker85 Thanks this. -
