Wow. Ok, so I was ready to go through a CDL school about a year ago & was reading Smaggs thread from day 1. After aggravating an old back injury that is not an option for me atm. But I have kept up with Smaggs' thread & created an account tonight to tell him good luck with Marten Transport!! You see my father has worked for Marten since i was 6yrs old... I'm 31now (you do the math). A few months ago he along with a few others were honored @ the Mondovi terminal, he was honored for 3million safe miles with Marten, & when I was younger I was there for a few hundred thousand of those miles & it was good times, I still remember meeting Randy Marten when i was 8y.o., LOL. Anyway what I'm saying is Marten *can* be a good company to haul for, like a previous poster said, communication is key. If you're not happy about something, don't sit on it, let em know what you're thinking... they will work with you. In the 25 years my ol' man has been there, if he needed to get home for whatever reason they made it happen.
Sorry for the wall of text, but I'm not posting from a computer & for whatever reason it erased my spaces, again sorry. Just to add to that, not only has my ol' man been there for 25yrs but my gramps was also an O/O there for several years b4 retiring a few years back, after my pops recruited him from Willis Shaw. Now to add to that my ol' man recently recruited his nieghbor to go work for Marten, got a $500 recruiting bonus & will get another $500 in a few weeks when the guy makes it 3months, & another $500 if he makes it 6months, prolly for a year too, but not sure there... & as far as I know the nieghbor is very happy & making more $$ with Marten than in any of the previous driving jobs that he had (he even stepped up from Hamms to Miller) LMAO! Anyway I thought I'd share my experience with Marten Transport with you Smaggs as Maten has been a part of my family for a 1/4 century now & hope it'll give you some encouragement that maybe you have made a good decision. Best of luck to you out there Smaggs!!
almost forgot..... yep... ThatsWutSheSaid

You know, I always read how bad all these companies are. I'll tell you guys right now, I have never worked for the perfect company. Yes there have been some really bad ones or kinda bad ones, ok ones and good ones. Now with that being said, I don't know to many people that like driving all day or night, sitting in traffic, dealing with a stupid beeping qualcom, paperwork, wrong directions, rude shippers, over crowded truck stops, CB rambos, bad weather and just bad attitudes from other drivers, etc, etc. Trucking is what it is. The fact is I just hate working, period! Also, for someone that hates a company another one loves it. I heard good things about Martin and I've heard bad things too. Same goes for every other driver I've talked to with several different companies. I think the real problem is the trucking industry as a whole is going down hill. I started driving in 1996 and it was great till 2001 with the exception of CF sticking it to me in 1999! Since then it has become a completely different job. So all I can say is go in with an open mind no matter what company you go with. Give it a few months at least. If it doesn't work out, go else where. I used to know a Marten driver and he loved it there.

Day one went well. Got a 2009 Pete with 378000 miles on it. Runs great. Runs like a new truck would. Nice to know their trucks get maintained. I'm happy. Cushy ride. White trucks help in this heat. APU is awesome. I like the new qualcomm, too.

Smaggs, you can look forward to some decent checks running the western fleet.

Yup. Running hard. I've already talked to my fm and DM. I told them I don't want to sit. Run me hard. Ut legal. So far so good.
