    Hello,
I am a female wanna be trucker. I live in West Texas but will be moving far south ear McAllen in a few months. I want to get my CDL. I am studying for the written test now and will get the physical soon. As far as actually learning to drive a truck, I was wondering what the opinions are on which route is better...school or carrier training? My only issue with carrier training unless it was local and home daily, is that I am not at all comfortable being alone with a strange man for weeks at a time. My primary goal would be to do regional driving and I have been looking a lot at Atlas. If I succeed in getting my CDL and if I was able to be hired on with Atlas, does anyone have anything good or bad to say about them? Thank you for your input in advance.

Alot of carriers are looking to recruit students that are already enrolled in a CDL school. I know this from experience, I am in my first week of CDL school and have already had 2 recruiters come to the school, one from Werner and one from TMC. Regardless of who you want to drive for, chances are that you will go through their training program before your officially hired. IMO you stand a much much better chance at being accepted for employment with most major carriers if you are enrolled with a good CDL school.
