Hey All!
Ive neglected to post but with good reason! I've been working my hiney off and loving every minute of it(ok maybe not the having to trek across the parking lot to go to the potty). I have one week left out of six of training and so far have hit 28 states!! I have been posting pics of my adventures (when im able to take them)to my Facebook acct and I've been asked so many times if I was on vacation! Ha! I feel like a dog hanging its head out the car window with his tongue flapping in the wind. I've been told many times that the excitement will wear off, and that's fine, but for now I refuse to contain my happiness at seeing our beautiful country! And getting paid to do it! It has been everything that I expected and more. Don't get me wrong, I did expect some not-so-good experiences and have had those too. But like with everything else, you have to take the good with the bad. I have met some of the nicest people, and I have met some bat-$h!t crazy people! Lol!! Driven in all kind of weather, except snow and ice obviously, and I'm totally wishing that I had trained in the winter months now. I'm scared poopless about bein by myself come snow season!:-/. But the trainer I have is awesome and has assured me of open communication after I finish if ever I need help. I work for an awesome company(as far as I can tell) and have been happy with them. We'll see if it's different when I get on my own. I have backed this trailer into places so tight, when I was done I felt like I could back a baby back into vah-jine-a!! (I have picked up a little trucker-ese) hehe. All in all, I couldn't be happier. Yes, says the rookie. Hope all of you are doing well and have gotten the miles you've wanted! Gotta run! Headed to Oregon! Get to check that state off too now! Laters!!!!Last edited: Jul 6, 2012

White Winter Rose...that is some of the best advice I've read here.
I'm checking out schools and how to pay, and I've learned a lot about what I do not want.... especially in an employer/company.<G>
Thanks!

Best thing to carry is pepper spray, OCAT. Go to a Law Enforcement/Security Supplier and ask for the high concentration ones. Not the mist or the foam type. Someone gets to threaten you pull it out and start shaking it to spray before hand. That crosses all communication boundries. Border Patrol Agents use it against gangs to include MS13. They are all talk but pull it out and start shaking they cover their eyes and move on.
The other side is after a shooting the, "He said, She said" dilema especially if there are no witnesses or CCTV. It will also help prevent the drama of possibile civil court convictions. Giving a scream for help in a parking lot (If heard) I am sure will bring a lot of truckers to anyone's aid; and pity the poor soul causing the problems. -
yesterday i was at the shop. and a trainer for one of the big carriers rolled in with two students. one of them being female.

Don't be skeered about the winter driving. Learn how to chain, and practice it a couple of times. Use a chunk of dunage like a 4 x 4 block of wood to drive a drive wheel up on which will lift your other off the ground and let you chain up real easy. I've spent a lot of time throwing iron while driving in the Yukon and Alaska... once you get the technique down you can do it pretty fast. Just be safe. Also get two pairs of good gloves, not the cloth type, but thick leather, and use em for throwin' and pullin your chains. Check youtube for several video tutorials on how to chain up if you haven't been trained yet.
Glad to hear that you're enjoying the ride.BigRedBigRig Thanks this. -
you don't want thick leather. you want water proof gloves.
last thing you want is frost bit fingers from wet gloves. and leather LOVES water. and gets really really cold. -
I've never had a problem with my leather ones, I just rotate them. Lasted longer than anything else I've used.

I have drove and operated heavy equipment for 18 years, and i can tell you that some of the best drivers we had were females. Not one time that i remember that any of these drivers complained or tried to get special treatment, that being said i have alot of respect for female drivers, but watch your back, and BECAREFULL.
