I go to orientation for Swift July 24 in Ocala. I'm gonna be doing Wal-Mart dedicated out of the grocery DC in Arcadia and want to get all the information I can from drivers who have worked (or are working) there doing the same thing. The recruiter says I'll be home most nights, sometimes I may have to stay out overnight.

    Wal-Mart dedicated drivers...sound off!

Swift is who does Wal-Mart dedicated in Florida now. If Greatwide were still doing it I would have sent them an application. The point is it's a step towards being hired on as a full time driver in Wal-Mart's private fleet. I have family who work for them. That isn't the reason I applied, but it's nice to know that door could be opened to me later on. It's easy work, it pays well, I get to home most nights, and I don't have to live like a gypsy or be treated like a road slave.

Have you been keeping tabs on my posts in other threads? If you have then you should already know my NO MORE OTR policy. That's the reason I left irt. I'm not doing any OTR anymore. Those days are over forever.

You really don't have a foot in the door with wal mart.. From what we are told in Texas they have a waiting list for drivers and it is all regional/otr 5 to 7 days trips.

To be fair, working in one of the stores is a completely different experience from the rest of the company. I should have mentioned that, but this is a message board so who cares.

Does Swift handle the Brooksville DC? Seems like a pretty good deal to keep you close to home, I'm from Hernando county and wouldn't mind moving back if there was a decent gig going there. Up north here in PA Schneider hauls the refrigerated freight for Wal-Mart and they're all the time looking for guys, I just don't want to stay up here and work another northeast winter:(
