Where's the money??

Where is the money? Asked probably a gazillion times a day.

Every sector has its' devil. They way I see it, almost everything pays equal in the end. If you make a list of all the factors influencing pay rate, (hours, experience, skill, management and admin skill, dependability, safety etc. ad nauseam) you will find that those guys making better money than the average Joe, has something to offer the average Joe can't.

LTL and specialized transport pays the best rates. Period.

But, considering everything, specialized operators do not necessarily have a better profit margin. They have other issues to deal with. (i.e the winter, seasonality, bigger equipment expenses, bigger operating expenses)

So, in the end, most sectors are equal. It depends on your personal circumstances, skills and willingness to make more than thy neighbor.

The guys who do make the real money are most of the times smart enough to keep their mouths shut about it.

 

That's right!! So I tend to pay attention to that independent contractor with the shiny new Coronado and smelling-like-new trailer. What's he hauling, what trailer is he pulling and where does he go. While this is no method to go bet on, I have since learned that dry vans are a sure way to go broke, and that there are some reefers, hazmat tanker boys and LTL fellows seemingly doing pretty well.

Ever seen one of them doorslammer container haulers driving a real nice rig? Me neither.

A very tight lipped bunch are this wind tower haulers. Rumor has it they are doing mighty fine.

 

this, and im not posting how many hours i worked last week either but it was a lot, 9 times out of 10, holding a steering wheel will not make you money, I will also say LTL, doubles, Low bed, dump trailer, tanker etc, and the areas where the steering wheel holders are to stupid to go will make you money, you could not pay me enough to be a dispatcher with that nextel going off every 30 seconds either

So you've been driving 10 years and.......what? Big deal. A company needs to get their product from point A to point B on time safely. They don't care if you've been driving for 100 years or wear a suit to work or smile or speak 4 languages or went to college. Typical AMERICAN! That's why this country is broke.
