There were some on a step deck i pulled once. Convenient when the winches are low to the ground like that.

i have a couple on my trailer in the spots over the toolboxes. they are okay, not great , just okay. i have had 1 that is a pain in the a@# due to road wear out of 6. on sale they may be okay for a couple spots on a trailer. johnny
Hanadarko Thanks this. -
I had ANCA's actual ratcheting winches on my old flat...they worked great for the first year or so running the northeast. After that the salt and road grime got pass the seals...couldn't get them to act right after and wouldn't buy them again.

I have been thinking
about buying a battery operated 3/8 drive ratchet to wind up my trailer mounted straps with. I strap 3 loads a day, 9 straps each, and it gets tiring re-winding all of them
.
Thinking to get ratchet, build adapter to fit winch holes, insert it, use ratchet to run the wind the straps back in
.
What do you think
?

I saw an attachment that goes on a battery drill, to do that.jbatmick Thanks this.

Seems ANCRA redesigned these but even with the rubber seal it looks like it still bombs?
I think it's a great idea...but to only get 1yr out of them isnt worth it.

That is the drawback to anything that is subjected to the weather and road chemicals. One of two reasons I went with a ratcheting bar, the other is cost. I've had mine two years now, with no problems. Just shoot a little oil on it occassionaly. I don't roll my straps on the winches and leave them hanging on the trailer, either. When empty, they get rolled and stored in a tarp box, so they don't deteriorate from weathering and road chemicals, so fast.

We have a couple drivers here that do that and I can always tell when I have had one of the trailers they just used because the straps get rolled all messed up on the winch (side to side) and do not roll back off easy when going to use the next time.jbatmick Thanks this.

That's the only time I've found them to be useful. When the ratcheting mechanism gets whooped out and doesn't catch anymore, that turns a quick strap maneuver into a lot longer replacement process. Just saying
skellr Thanks this.

I'm fluffy, or short for my weight.
