Maybe someone can point me in the right direction.. I went to school and got my Class A about 4 yrs ago. at the time all i could get was a job driving a rolloff truck.
I'm trying to go OTR now and and going through the school i trained with to locate a job. This is difficult as i Have a DUI that's 6 yrs old. I consider the DUI experience
to be one of the better lessons i learned in life. No one was injured, and neither was the vehicle. The police simply stopped me before i made a bigger mistake. As of
right now I'm pre-hired by U.S.X. which of the companies that were suggested to me was the one i liked best. Now here's the rub... U.S.X. says i need to go through
160hrs of retraining before they'll take me on (the school i went to says i would only need 40hr to be road ready). the cost would be around 6,000 for the retraining. Considering that i already have a class A and am still paying off the 8,000 bill for the initial training, i feel that this additional 6 grand is unreasonable. U.S.X. claims they will reimburse me up to 7,000 for training at the rate of 150/month. I have prior military experience and know to take a recuiters words with a healthy shovelful of salt. Is this true? will they reimburse me? Are there smaller companies i should be looking into instead? any help or advice at all would be greatly appriciated

Even if they did, it would take nearly 4 years to make that 7 grand back.

Yeah, that's about how the math worked out for me too... sounds a bit like indentured servitude if you ask me... I don't see how i can be too picky at this point though

U.S.X is a bad company, don't poke it with a 50 foot pole. I hear drivers complain about hometime and how long they sit without a load. Just no, don't do it! Stay away from JB as well, some of them sit 4 days without anything. Sent a prehire request to everyone, Boyd was the only one that said, "It will be at least 4 days before your trainer is ready for you." But stay away from us, we have enough new guys without a truck that works. Try SWIFT or one of the smaller companies.

I'm not one to bash a driver based on the company, I try to help but some refuse to listen, "SWIFT, go back anymore and you'll pop that PTL truck. No, no.... oh well."

:biggrin_25525: sounds like you're a good guy with good intentions. Know any other smaller companies that would be more understanding?

Maverick. Good hometime and many fleets to drive under.
