I'm 53 considering early retirement with a second career in trucking. After a lot of research it's come down to Roehl or Millis with my preference being Millis. I have some questions I was hoping you could answer. First, what can I expect for average miles / week after the trainer gets through with me? Second, I live in Rochester NY about 60 minutes west of the Weedsport yard on I90. Can I leave my truck in Weedsport during hometime and my personal vehicle there when I'm out? Last, I have read the Hometime Promise. Is it reasonable to think that Millis can get me home every 10-14 days or do they really expect you to stay out 3 weeks at a time? Thank you.

About 3k a week and yes you can leave your truck in weedsport and home every 14 or you can stay out as long as you like

My decision came down to the same 2 companies as well, for me I am in a good shipping lane for both companies. I can only go by what I have read and researched so far as I don't start until August. From what I have seen from guys the mileage seems good with Millis. I would venture to guess from what I have read that almost all the drivers are averaging 2500 at least, I have seen a lot of 3k posts with Millis drivers. Roehl from what I seen seemed to be slightly lower averaging in the lower 2k mark. This is all is from what I have read so take it for what it is worth. But I think I have read every possible comment I could about these 2 companies in the past 3 months.
I talked to Alice this morning about what I would be able to do with my truck on hometime. You can bring it home!!! Best option in my opinion. In my case if I have a trailer I will need to drop it somewhere "safe" which most likely be the very small Appleton drop lot ( I think they still own that drop lot, only seen 1 trailer sitting there for a few days now ). Than bobtail home and park the truck in the driveway. In your case you'd probably drop your trailer in Weedsport and head home. I am not sure about leaving your vehicle but I believe that is pretty standard with any company, being able to leave your vehicle at the terminal while out. Someone else would have to answer that for sure though.
I can't say anything about home time other than I have read that they are really good at getting you home when you want. However I would think if you are a OTR driver they would expect you to be out for 14 days. If you wanted to be home around the 10/11 day mark I think Roehl is actually a better fit for that as they have a 11/3 fleet for OTR, depending on area. But Millis also has more Regional and dedicated I believe, so that is something to consider.
Honestly, your best bet is just to call Alice in Recruiting. She shoots it straight at ya, she doesn't try to sell you on them like other recruiters and fill your ears with a bunch of ear candy to make you feel all giddy and hop on board the second she starts talking. She has answered every question for me and never anything but honestly from her.
Good luck with your decision.
Btw... one of the main reasons I chose Millis over Roehl is Millis is much smaller. Roehl is more like a big corporation in my eyes which I want to get away from, as my current job is with a company like that. For some that is great, some people like to have everything laid out for them by someone else. For myself I like to feel they trust me to make educated decisions and trust me. I felt that way when I researched Millis. Both are good for their own reasons, it all comes down to what you want with the company you plan to commit your career to. -
