Yes, I'm glad you are doing fine. I'm also glad that you ran across some folks that noticed someone struggling and helped him out instead of shrugging it off and going on about their business. Common courtesy isn't so common these days.
Danfromwindsor Thanks this. -
When I arrived at the last stop, I checked to see if there was a soft pre-plan on me...and there was...which meant that it was set up with the anticipation that I was going to get there an hour later.
Got mt and about 10 minutes later I got the work order to pick up in crystal hill va, 114 miles awaly from me. The address did not come up on my gps so I had to spend some extra time to figure out exactly where this place was as I could not remember ever being there. By the time I was finished making sure I knew where I was going, an additional 10 to fifteen minutes had passed. I then notice that they quit receiving at 1600 and I was not going to make it. I sent in a message stating that. The message I got back was that I was only going to be 8 minutes late when they sent me the wo.
So they knew I was going to be late and they gave it to me anyway....hym.
So I am on the road and call in and tell them that I will not make it and they tell me that they will load me tomorrow...so i figure oh well.
I got there about 30 minutes late and there was another mav driver in the same situation.
I then look closely at the delivery time and it is for 1530 today and I can not load unitl 0700 if I am first, which I was not...and the delivery is 470 miles away. So I call my fleet manager and tell him that I will not be able to deliver tomorrow.....I get dead silence on the other end.
So my plan to stay out over the weekend in the hopes of getting a nice load to deliver on Monday have fallen through. I only got 2 loads this week as I was mt on monday and did not get loaded until Tuesday. So I am ending up with 1290 miles for the week.
So I have another crappy week because the csr can not take the time to look at the info that they have in front of them and then give me a load that I can make.
Freight slowing down is not a valid excuse. It is the sales departments job to get loads that we can haul...just like when I was in sales....a slow economy was not an excuse.....jobs still had to be sold or go out and take them from your competition.
Hopefully things will improve. I can not live on these miles.
But other than that, things are wonderful.
I stopped in Carlisle Pa for the night and will head up to scranton PA to spend Saturday and Sunday at the Petro. At least I will be able to watch some movies.
On another note, I stopped at a walmart to do some shopping...big mistake. They did not allow any truck parking anywhere and it was worse than driving through downtown Chicago. Big Mistake....lol
Talk at you all later!jxu417 and Flatbedder 1966 Thank this. -
Cold front came through and now I have the heat on in the bunk.......I love these apus!

Im glad that you are doing better Jim. Just keep drinking plenty of water but also remember that to much water is bad also so be sure to drink gatorade or something to replenish your lost vitamins from all the sweat.
I will be heading to Little Rock to start orientation either the 29th of July or 5th of August

that used to piss me off to no end, sitting for hours and/or low miles for the week do to "slow freight", especially after running hard for the first part of the week.
yet their still hiring new drivers like crazy.
one of the reasons I left. -
Sitting in the airport waiting to board. Should be in Little Rock at 1:30.

Since, in my opinion, this thread is one of the best, and longest detailing a new drivers experience with maverick, orientation----present day I chose it to post what i think is a very important issue that was brought to my attention the past couple of weeks. It is the importance of the Driving instructor setting a good example for their students also students properly evaluating their instructors. We all know, there are instructors at Maverick who unfortunately could care less about wether a student is properly trained before evaluating out and is in it for the paycheck. The instructors that are in it for the money are easy to spot....well maybe not so much unless you crawl up into the air conditioned sleeper to find the instructor in there while his student that SINCE DAY ONE has been securing/tarping/unsecuring/untarping ALONE. I think its bullshirt, inhumane, modern day slavery for an instructor to do this to his student. YES- the student needs to learn to eventually be able to run the truck by himself but should the student have a question re load placement, securing, tarping, etc, he should not be made to crawl up into the sleeper out of 100+ degree temperatures, being cautious not to trip over the coffee can, bucket, whatever it is the instructor has back there with urine in it!, to get an answer to his/her question.
That being said, alot of students returning to evaluate out ive heard say something to the effect of "....well i figured i'd just put up with it for 3 weeks and then get my own truck..." Students, part of the eval process is a piece of paper with a numerical rating system for your instructor...fill it out and be honest even to the point of turning the paper over and describing something such as the incident i've described above. If the instructor was like that with you, he will be like that with all of his students. He doesn't need to be an instructor, and you dont need to put up with it either. -
congratulations. Wish you the best. -
Good luck Bishop73, at least your not on the grey dog. Spoke to Adam the recruiter on thursday, sounded optimistic they are going to start background this coming week. Have fun stay safe.
Bishop73 Thanks this.
