The truck stop idea is a good one! Really helps to spot some of the smaller, good companies out there!

Check out RBI (Robert Bearden). They are out of GA. Really good company! Nice equipment and have they have APU's on all their trucks. I believe they run mostly the Southeast and run shorter trips so your chances of getting home will be a lot better. I am almost certain that they take newbies. They are dry van and also have a reefer division.

    Good luck man...

Ive been at Cargo for almost two years now. Ive been home every weekend except for one (broke down in PA), I am also usually home 1 to 2 nights during the week as well. Overall I average around 2,600 miles or so per week. The pay is decent, and you can really rack it up with multi stop loads, or by getting layovers. We also get a bonus the 2nd Friday of June, and 2nd Friday of December. The bonus is .02 for all paid miles for the previous 6 months. They also do holiday pay for 7 holidays a year, and of course a safety bonus which is obtainable if you keep your nose clean.

Just got done with orientation at Wolding. Very family oriented from what I have heard so far. They should have no problem getting you a trainer in your area so you can get home during training! They have a Southeast regional run, which gets you home most weekends. Again, this was info from drivers not recruiters. They also have one of the better tuition reimbursement deals. Its $200/mo up to $10,000 instead of the usual $100/mo up to $6,000. (Worked great for me, as my school was nearly 10,000!) While we were at orientation, they had a cookout in front of the bunkhouse, and Dan Wolding(son of H.O. was sitting at the table with the drivers! Very good vibes while I was there. Everyone was there to help, and try to make you the best driver you can be. I am sure it won't always be that way as no company is that great all the time, but that is my input. Def a company worth looking into imo.
