is this the same bizzaro studios that did a 6 minute short on bluegrass music - and made anyone living south of michigan look like complete bumpkins?

be very cautious as to what comments you give anyone "wanting to show america what its really like"

I've seen a documentary on exactly this. But for the life of me I cant remember the title. It followed 3 different truckers on their journeys for work. One was a trucker into the arctic, the other was a produce hauler cross border, and I am sure there was another one too!

my husband and i are expediters. we know about sacrificing. we are on the road 24/7 getting home 1-2 days a month if we are lucky. we expeditiously deliver hot loads 48 states and canada. we have 4 kids and 11 grandbabies. we have been doing this for 3 years and the change in lifestyles and the issues we have faced living on the road have been very eye opening to say the least. i am glad to see someone taking an interest. truck drivers are some of the best people yet get no respect. yet if it were not for the truck driver, where would this country be?? would be glad to talk to you. anything to help the image factor.

Poll: I-80 toll less popular than leasing the Pa. turnpike

    The Associated Press

    11/7/2007

HARRISBURG, Pa. — More people said they prefer leasing the Pennsylvania Turnpike over putting tollbooths on Interstate 80 to raise money for roads and bridges, an independent poll released Wednesday said.

Asked to choose, 41 percent said the state should lease the turnpike while 36 percent said they would rather see tolls on I-80. Thirteen percent said neither, and the rest said they didn’t know or didn’t answer, the poll by Connecticut-based Quinnipiac University shows.

Support for adding tolls to I-80 was strongest in southeastern Pennsylvania, at 51 percent, while support for leasing the turnpike was strongest in northwest Pennsylvania, at 56 percent.

Gov. Ed Rendell first proposed last year to lease the turnpike to a private company as a way to generate more money for highway, bridge and mass transit needs. However, the idea gained little traction in the Legislature.

In July, legislators approved a funding package to add up to 10 toll booths to I-80 and speed up planned turnpike toll increases as a way to raise the money. Federal approval is still necessary before Pennsylvania can put tolls on I-80, and the plan has attracted heated opposition from people who live in the I-80 corridor.

The turnpike commission would manage the tolls under a long-term lease with the state Transportation Department.

The telephone survey was conducted from Oct. 30 to Monday. It surveyed 1,019 people and carried a sampling error margin of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

The "Ask The Law™" programs are an ongoing educational effort between Ol’ Blue, USA and commercial law enforcement agencies. We hope you find this feature of Ol’ Blue, USA both helpful and enjoyable. The bottom line: we would hope this page and its information and guidance would help keep drivers from being ticketed or placed out-of-service.
The specific purpose during our live radio broadcasts of the “Ask The Law” program is to have truckers call or write Ol’ Blue, USA and pose questions to law enforcement officials relating to safety and legal issues concerning commercial vehicles.

    NOVEMBER 2007 COLUMN Week 1
HOS update, Tread Depth, Out-of-Service and Flasher use questions answered by law enforcement officials as of November 2007. Warning: Laws are subject to change without notice

    Update on FMCSA’s 2005 Hours-of-Service:

On September 28, 2007, the United States District Court issued an order in the various Hours-of-Service cases, addressing the motion for stay filed by the American Trucking Associations and various requests for rehearing.

The order denied all requests for rehearing; so the previous Court's decision to reject FMCSA's "34-hour restart" and “11-hour driving” limitation stands. The only modification to the Court's earlier order is that the mandate is stayed until December 27, 2007, at which time the Court's opinion will take effect.

All rules and regulations in effect as of this date on HOS are continued until at least Dec 27, 2007, unless the FMCSA brings forward some acceptable new program.

To view the Court’s order, for more information from FMCSA, and our Log Book Presentation, please view our WebPages at www.olblueusa.org/HOS/update.html

What is the Out-of-Service Rule for Tread Depth on a CMV?

Q: I recently pulled a load in a company truck that had tires with low tread depth. The tread bars were showing on one tire. On the others there were spots where the tread was worn down - probably from some heavy skidding. I know that the rule is 2/32-inch tread depth on drive tires and 4/32-inch on steer tires but how do the tread bars figure into it? What if it is bald only in one spot on the tire? Thank you. Paul in Oregon

A: Provided by Senior Trooper Monty Dial, Texas Highway Patrol, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division, Garland, Texas:

All we measure is the depth of the tread.

A quick and simple way to tell if the tire has enough tread is to take a penny and with Lincoln's head pointing down and place it in between the tread. If you can see any portion of Lincoln's head, the tire has less than 2/32" of tread depth. As for the flat spots, if you have an area that is 2 inches square or more, then that too is a violation.

For the tire to be Out-of-Service, you have less than 2/32" on a steer tire and no tread (slick) on both tires on the same side and on the same axle.

The tread wear indicators are at 2/32 tread. In the tread area of each tire you will find a raised spot. When the tread is even with that spot that indicates 2/32 remaining. Thats just a quick visual way to check a tire.

For a more clear idea you can purchase a tread depth tool at most parts stores. Simply put it into the tread area and push the top part down. Then look at it and get your measurement just like reading a tape measure or ruler. Some Goodyear stores will give you one if you ask for it.

Where we need to start is with OOIDA and the ATA ! Pull your memberships from them ! Hurt them in the pocket book like we are and lets get a organization for truckers going ! Someone to stand up for us and not just claim credit for what the government hands them ! What good is a group if they aren't representing their members !
