That is good to know. So is it as active and busy in drilling as in Midland area? That is where they are headed to but I am just not feeling the desire to move to anywhere sround there. We have no problem being apart so I was looking more in Dallas area and when he would get off time he vcan go home where we are. I also have been looking into Austin area ss well. But if it is the same in Ft Worth as in Midland that would be so much better. Please let me know.

Things around Midland and Odessa seem to stay fairly busy. Drilling around Fort Worth has not been going on as long. I have not been to Midland in a while, but I was in Odessa a few months ago. I didn't see anything going on, but the people that I delivered to do a lot of business with oil people. I would say that it would be busier around Forth Worth simply because I have seen a lot of trucks moving around the area. It is primarily south of Fort Worth where most of the drilling that I have seen. There are a lot of small towns around the metroplex (Dallas/Fort Worth area). Motels are staying full and more being built around Cleburne. That is in Johnson county about 30 to 40 minutes south of Fort Worth.

You can check out FFE in texas. They have just started hauling to the oilfields in midland tx. They have a driving school and you pay nothing if you stay with them for a yr.

All the jobs I have looked at in the WIA office here in Cleburne...you already need a CDL, tanker and sometimes hazmat endorsement, and usually experience.
    Examples for the WIA website..
    1. HS/GED.
Must have a Class A CDL with Hazmat and Tanker endorsement (x endorsement).
    Must have TWIC card
Must have five years' experience driving a tanker truck.

    2. Clean driving record
    no tickets
no accidents in the last 3 yrs
no felonies within the last 10yrs no drug convictions
    no smokers
    none hazmat
must have 3yrs of otr multi stat experience with the 24mo

this one is for Knight trans
    3. 21 years of age (required by insurance).
3 months of current OTR experience (excluding training) OR 6 months OTR experience (after training) in past 12 months OR 12 months OTR experience in the past 5 years.
Pass DOT physical and functional capacity testing.
No DWI/DUI in last 10 years and no failed or refused drug testing
No convictions in the last 7 years
Must have good driving safety record
No more than 2 moving violations in last 2 years
No more than 1 preventable accident in last 3 years

Most of the postings are like these..... which is why I'll pbly go with one of the big companies for a while.... IF I can get in shape and pass the physical/agility thing......

You can sign up on the Work in Texas website and look for yourself....

You say he's not trying to bypass anything, and just wants to work, and I believe that, thats what we all want, but the companies you mentioned, more than likely if they help employee get there CDL, Im sure they are already employee with the company, cant see any company hireing some one as a driver that isnt a driver, he can probly get hired on doing something else and then get the help with the licence,i wouldnt hold my breath on a big pay check, If being a driver is what he really wants, like one already suggested, call one of the big companies, do his time, like we allhad to, Good luck

The school at FFE for the oilfield job is just for midland texas. They are what they call local jobs. The school is 18 days to get the cdl and then 6 weeks with a trainer. Have to be a local or willing to relocate for the oilfield job though. Give them a call it cant hurt to check it out. Good Luck!!!!!

A lot of bad info here . Tank carriers will hire drivers with 1 year experience to haul hazmat . Nobody should be advised to go to a training company . The pay is low and a high percentage don't complete their contract and get billed for the school.

I live in California. I want to work in Texas in the oil fields as a driver or in a position in the field that requires a CDL. Would I be wasting my time getting schooling and my licence in California? Should I just relocate down to texas and get my licence there?

Thanks. Had I had known of them would have tried to get him on. But he has now begun school for CDL. he really had to do it and found a decent price for one school that has good rep. The good thing is at least he won'tr be tied to anyone. But now he must run tto Texas to find work to pay debt, LOL.

Halliburton is sending people to C-! in Fort Worth. They take care of it. You do not need 2 years experience to work in oilfield. Call C-1 and see who you need to talk to.
