    Yes I agree. I do not quite get the SUV's especially the way gas is now, we don't have them. Yea gotta take from us working folk to give to the deadbeats. When are the middle class working Americans gonna get some incentives for working their ##### off!

    Smokey, I thought about finishing out my time to get my retirement, with the Law Enforcement Officers Supplement I could retire at age 50 with 25 years with full benefits. Thing is though I will have my 25 years completed in 7 more years, but I have to work another 5 years to reach retirement anyway so that means 12 more years. I have climbed the ladder as high as I care to, and yes I am also tired of the politics involved, I have thought long and hard about this and just need more of a challenge and a change of pace ( I should mention I work in the jail so I also would welcome driving cross country rather than staring at four walls all day). I can always come back, albeit at a lower pay and rank, if I wish to complete my years.

    My wife is good with this decision and actually looks forward to riding with me from time to time. Rodknocker- I have enjoyed serving the public and have met, and dealt with, many not so pleasant folks....it is a rewarding career but I am ready for a change.

    Thank you for your feedback and please continue to give me any information you think may be helpful! Does anyone have thoughts on Con-Way?

    Ok, spoke with a recruiter at Roehl, sent in my credit application for financing the training and got approved. After talking to my buddy that does driving decided to go with Roehl to at least start off...will see how things are going after my contract is satisfied and go from there. Will keep my progress posted on here.

    Got a question if someone could clarify....my understanding is my DOT physical has to be no older than 60 days when I attend Roehl Training...but do I need my physical before I take my CDL Learners? I seem to recall someone saying it would be restricted if I don't have my DOT Physical before I take the CDL Learners test.

    Perhaps when some of those beltway-monkeys in DC decide it might be a good idea to actually READ the Constitution. I wouldn't hold my breath.

    In Wisconsin you can get your cdl permit without the physical but yes it would be restricted. However you can go back in after your physical and get it changed. What I did was go in and take my tests, they store for 1 year in the system, at least in wisconsin, than once I finish my physical either today or tomorrow I will go in than and get the permit with no restrictions. 2 trips to the DMV though doing it that way and I am not sure if you would have to pay a second time if you didnt have the physical and get the permit. Each state might also be different.

    You started over 20 years ago and have put away just 55k? You will be working forever hate to break it to you. Unless of course you get a thick public sector union pension which normally is around 55k a year with full benefits.

    Lol. I was talking about how much I made this year so far. Gross. Maybe not there yet but I know I'm close. Right now I feel like I'm already retired. I love to travel the south and I'm doing what I'd want to do when I'm retired only my fuel is paid for and they pay me very well to do what I love to doThey even pay for my motel stays. A person will need at least 4k a month to retire in this world to enjoy themselves somewhat. Unless they just want to sit on the porch and watch the paid off house deteriorate. Lots of retired folks tell many stories but truth be told, most never done anything anyhow. They are used to living like poverty

    I went to Roehl's school and this is how it worked. Roehl had me take the DOT physical from their doc that they scheduled and paid for prior to attending school. I had to have a training permit to attend school. Roehl had Wis. DOT CDL testers come to the school where we took our test. Then we went to the DMV and got our Wis. CDL. Returned to my home state and converted Wis. CDL to my home state CDL.
