After spending 5 years int he last truck and many hours getting the antenna working the way it should. I admit that at first I was just lost and was grasping at straws which is why it took me so long to get everything correct.

Well I am in a brand new truck now. I threw my antennas up and hooked the radio up and initial SWR was just under 2:1. I thought this was great, no screwing around anymore. Well it did not stay that way. It is now up over 3:1. Not good. Oh well time to tear into everything on the new truck.

I am not really fond of the system on the Peterbilts or any factory system for that matter. I think I am just going to feed in a new single phased coax to the drivers side, add a heavy stainless stud, reinforce the stock mounting bracket in the mirror because they are known to break, run my own grounds to everything including fresh braid between the doors and the door jams.

After that then I am going to up the size of the power and ground going to the radio, going to bypass the factory fuse box. While I am at that, I am going to run extra power and ground for a warmer incase I decide to put one in the new truck. May need to pick up some rubber gromets incase I have to make some new holes to run everything.

    Rat,

If you will drop that drag axle and keep it down, your SWR will be PERFECT.

Check with the shop, they will tell you the same thing.:biggrin_2551:

Or????? Go with the NGP antenna from Firestik. Put one on my Fiberglass motorhome and after tuning it's working great. Have a Galaxy 959DX & the NGP antenna SWR's 1.6 low side 1.8 high side 1.5 on channel 19..... sweet..
