Even though this question was not about me, this is great information.
I lost my job in IT earlier this year and at 55 it was time to think about a career change.
My younger brother has driven for 7 years for Prime and suggested I try a career in trucking.
He said he knows of several ex IT guys out there in the same situation as me.

My lead driver mentioned that as long as you're wearing your safety goggles then they're not going to go after you if you don't have a faceshield on your helmet.

My big problem with those stupid faceshields is that I try to duck under things, I go underneath my truck to check my fifth wheel and things like that, and that stupid thing just bangs on stuff and throws my head off. If I ever actually had to use the faceshield, it'll probably be too scratched up to see through it...

Well, as long as we have SOME trucks to drive. Right now, if you're one of the last guys on your shift to show up, you could be sitting for an hour waiting for a truck to jump into...

@perv: Good luck with the busted tailbone, dude~

Good, but the "trick" - far from a trick - is to realize that with .......

It is like this, one will never have ^^ANY^^ instructor teach one how to take a fall like someone did a few days ago from the catwalk on a tanker ~ let alone how to tell the dispatcher you are not going to take a load when telling that can result in separation from employment,......

I wish I could really open up with a decent list of actuality facts but it would get me thrown off as no one would believe such exists ~ please note the number of people who have .....

uh, I am not going to get into an argument and that would attract attention - some of the things that are taught are very correct and invaluable, I recently had to sit through those at Pactive where I worked as a line packer but just remember: There is no such thing as a safety net ( public assistance ) as what actually happens something we do not hear about

    And never will.

Hey Rockdoc I have heard about new trucks in May June July, all have passed with no new trucks. So now will it be August? Have you heard something new about the trucks? Or are they still in Green Bay being fitted? thanks in advance for the reply. Stubby

The contract we signed with our DBL stated the trucks would arrive in late July and August. I have heard that due to the storm in Dallas, some of our trucks were delayed to provide trucks to replace the damaged ones. Also from what I have been told, they will not be "new" trucks, just new to us. :biggrin_2554:

I have been told the margins on your BP account are higher than our GeoSouthern account so your account is getting some of the equipment we were promised, specifically the new trailers. Also heard we may have to share some of the new trucks with your account.

It really is silly how these accounts are making Schneider so much profit yet we have to drive equipment that should have been retired long ago. The mechanic for our account came in this past Monday and there were 26 trucks which he had to service. Meanwhile we have shifts of drivers who have to wait around for a truck to roll in so they can do their job. Oh, and they are expected to load and deliver 2 whole loads per day!!! :biggrin_25511:

If you are trying to apply to one of Schneider's energy accounts you may have noticed most are not taking new hires at this time. I have heard they are having trouble getting enough drivers up to Pennsylvania so check that out if you are interested. I believe you will be hauling sand. Also the BP account in Corpus is still taking applications for drivers last time I checked.

As for the crude oil hauling (condensate) account in Victoria, we are booked up! Got about 210 active drivers or drivers in the process of training here with a waiting list of 60 drivers, most to come from OTR once the space is available for them. Today a lot of drivers received retention bonuses for the APRIL,MAY,JUNE quarter and plan to take their skills some other place so all I can tell you is, if you are interested keep checking the website. If I hear of any openings or changes I will be sure to post an update.

Today I would like to talk about the bonus program on the Victoria account...

The bonus program is run quarterly. It use to be called a safety bonus and you had to meet three criteria to receive it...

    1) No spills or accidents
    2) No over-speed (long periods of time over 60MPH as measured through the Qualcom)
    3) No over idling (as measured through the Qualcom)

As long as you did this, you could expect to receive $500 for the quarter. In May the Victoria account experienced an exodus of drivers (mainly to Sun Coast) and needed to become more competitive with pay to keep drivers so they implemented the driver retention bonus. In order to receive that bonus you just had to meet the following criteria...

    1) Be employed as a driver on the account

The bonus was doubled to $1000 per quarter. But there is one issue- you must be an "active driver" operating on the account on your own (no trainer with you) before the quarter began or on the first day of the quarter, otherwise you get NOTHING!

A quarter is Jan-Mar, Apr-Jun, Jul-Sep, Oct-Dec so for example, if you want to be paid the bonus for the July-Sep quarter, you must be driving on your own by July the 1st, otherwise you get no bonus.

Also some of the drivers received another bonus on top of the retention bonus called a longevity bonus. If you were an "active driver" on the account driving on your own before January 1st, 2012 you received an extra $1000.

So to summarize, today some drivers made out like bandits and received $2000 extra applied to their paychecks while some drivers who started on April the 2nd and beyond got NOTHING! The managers told the drivers the bonus money would be prorated for those who came onto the account in the middle of the quarter, but that didn't happen. I have heard Schneider is notorious for making their OTR bonus hard to achieve so I guess it makes sense they apply the same concept to their energy accounts. After all, the Victoria account has only made a profit of $3 million with a margin of 24% for the first 6 months of 2012 so I suspect there just wasn't enough money available to reward all the drivers.
