So I scheduled my DOT Physical for this Wednesday morning. It's the last thing I need to do before returning to the DMV to get my Permit ( passed the tests already ). I am a little concerned as they use a weight to height chart that seems to not take into every single person build structure etc. I am 5'5" and 240 lbs. I have always been really stocky/ some what chubby all my life. According to this chart my BMI would put me at 41. There is no way in hell my BMI is 41. I may have some chubby going on here, but man the job I do now is extremely labor intensive. I lift/carry/ bend and pick up mats, uniforms and all kinds of heavy crap all day, not to mention probably walk 5 or more miles a day easily. I think there is quite a bit of muscle mass hidden under the chubby lol. One thing I know I need to do is lay off the low car monster I drink all the #### time, it's artifically raising my blood pressure. I went and checked it the other day at CVS and it was something like 135/ 82. But that was after pounding 2 monsters in the 2 hours before that lol.

Anyway, is this going to be a problem? Because I am seriously thinking about moving up to the July 30 ( next monday ) training instead of the August 27th one. But after reading on the DOT physicals stuff, they seem to be sticky on this BMI/Neck Size sleep apnea stuff. Ok I will admit, ya I am chubby some what fat, but I consider myself able to do just about anything with no limitations. The sleep apnea thing scares me because they seem to base that off your bmi and neck size, the thing is I have ALWAYS slept great, I sleep almost exactly 8 hours every single night with no problems. It's almost weird how my body wakes up at almost exactly 8 hours no matter what. I don't generally ever sleep in sort to speak on days off etc.

Should I be worried about any of this? Or do I have bigger things to worry about, such as when I start to actually back up a truck and trailer lol ...

On a side note, I have seen some guys out there that literally roll into the cab and into the back of a trailer ... so maybe I am over analyzing this.

Any doctor/chiropractor can do the DOT physical unless that has changed, you will be fine. Most will do all the normal physical stuff then the extras DOT ask for like hearing and eye. I wouldn't worry about the BMI and what not. They do check blood pressure, so lay off the monsters even low sugar/low carb ones are bad for you due to the caffeine in them. If you BP is high that can flag your physical. If they ask if you snore say no. Other than that you should be fine.

I wouldn't stress over it. My bp was in the 140/80 range on those drugstore machines, and it was like 118/60 at the docs office. I went to a express care clinic for mine and they said this is the easiest physical they do. Just lay off the energy drinks nd anything with caffeine the night before and that morning.

Drink plenty of water the day before. Lay off the salt as soon as you can. I just went though the DOT and they did tell one guy he needed a sleep study. But he was pretty large.

Well went in for my physical today and got my 2 year card. Everything was fine except my weight. I could tell she was trying to find more wrong to send me to that sleep apnea bs because of my weight. But my neck was 16 and half and blood pressure was 108/72. Both normal and under. So she writes on my long form, patient admits being over weight, and denies having sleep apnea. Kind of pissed me off as it is eluded that she was concerned about it ONLY because of my weight. I hate that they treat every patient as they should all be shaped, same height and weight etc. My whole family is short and stocky, just the way we are so it bugged me she wrote that crap on there. Anyway everything but weight was fine and normal and got my 2 year med card.

Just watch what you eat and do a few laps when parked each day. It's so easy to get into a rut physically in this business. Just make it part of your routine.

I bring out 8 and 15 pound dumbbells, a jump rope, a 75lbs resistance band, and Push up bars. You almost always have 6-9 feet in the back of the trailer you can use to work out in, walk the parking lots if its safe, and def. watch what you eat out here. Most of the healthy stuff at the restaurants still isn't really healthy.
