Yeah, trucks sitting in industrial areas, for instance, over the weekend, are nice targets for the bad guys. I had a trailer stolen while dropped for the weekend.

Really motivated people to rip off an APU. Wow

Apu for sale: some wiring frayed otherwise works great I imagine...Cheap cheap cheap
asdf4321 Thanks this. -
Maybe there should be a national database established that tracks these APU serial numbers and mates the serial number to the virgin install tractor VIN. No respectable driver/owner would buy an APU out of the trunk of a car that had a ground off S/N. Furthermore, respectable shops would refuse to work on a truck or APU where the APU S/N did not jive with the Tractor VIN. This is probably just the beginning of a huge rash of these incidents given APU costs, new engine costs, and fuel costs ... it's the perfect storm to launch a black market for "cheap" APU's. I know it won't/can't happen in the real world, I'm just thinking out loud.

I doubt any of it is going to be resold. Most likely already in some shady scrap yard somewhere. Thats where most stolen ac units end up.

I'm not giving out many details except for the fact whoever did it knew what they were doing and where connections were. That's not sitting in a scrap yard anywhere.

If any truckers are in the Fresno area, be extra careful. Things have a tendency to grow legs and walk off around here.
