Companies with good trainers?

My wife and I are desiring to become OTR drivers. Her previous husband was a driver until the cancer took him. I have lived on the road in a previous job. So, we both have some idea of what is involved. Our best friends were going to get a 2nd truck and she would train my wife while he trained me. But since he got a new truck this year to beat the new taxes, he cannot afford a 2nd rig now. My wife is in school now and when she has started driving, I will go to school so we can work as a team.

While many recruiters have talked to her, we are still trying to chose a company. Our main concern is training so that we may build a solid foundation for our retirement career(s). While we do not want to get cheated, pay for the first year or 2 is a scondary concern. Our kids are raised, our house and bills paid so we can probably eat on a reasonable reimbusrment for our labors.

We will be givng my son our house and her son our motorhome. So, hometime will not be a real concern since it will probably be year before we get amotorhome for fulltime living. Even then we are not sure where we have our seasonal lots for it. Still we want some offtime. Since we have friends or relatives in almost every state, where we take this offtime at is not a concern. We will be happy so many places. Where ever we need to take our 34 hours to reset our 70s hours, we will be happy.

We will be licensed in IL, and would like a company with a presence with a state of here to start. We want to be company drivers and are not interested in any lease things at this time. My wife has talked to many recruiters a the community college where she is in school. I have met and talked to a couple of them. currently we are looking at Roehl, Transport America, and Southern Refrigerated. Is one of these better for us than the other? Is there another company we should look at? We really want the best training we can get and hope that after training we can get around 5k miles a week. Any suggestions or comments will be appreciated.

Perhaps the question should have been which company has hte best ratio of good to bad trainers. Or maybe, which companies train the trainers to train. A good trainer is much different than a good driver.
