Hello all-
In two weeks I will be moving from near Chicago to Portland, OR. I have found two possible routes that seem to make sense to take during the move-
1- I-80 West and then I-84 North just outside of Salt Lake all the way to Portland.
2- Take I-90 through Spokane and then use HW 395 and I-82 to cut over to I-84 into Portland.
I looked online and noticed that the mileage for both of these routes is exactly the same. Given the time of year, I am wondering which route is better served for winter driving (less steep passes, less elevation, weather, etc.)
Does anyone have any suggestions? I would greatly appreciate any help any of you could provide.
Many thanks!
Route help please!

80 and 84 is the way I've always gone.

Brickman is right. 80 to 94. Good road, less steeper hills. Weather stays nicer longer than the northern choice.

That may be true for a trucker looking for the easy drive. But if you NEVER have been over the top on 90, its breathtaking. Dont count it out. Its really amazing. I take it even in the truck when I can. Even in the winter. I love it as long as winter weather allows it. West Montana and Idaho is really awsome.

Exactlywhat El Ridder wanted an easy drive. Probally will be traveling in a rental truck. 80 and 84 is the way to go. It may be beautiful on 90 but I don't even like the pulls in the summer. A whole bunch of dead spaces for phone reception and boring as can be. There is no way I'd even go on it in the winter unless I don't have a choice. Experience will show that you want your life to be easy and simple. I did a lot of crazy things when I started off teaming that I look back on and say "WTF was I thinking?"...LOL

This time of year?--definately 80 & 84.
Plus, if you have any problems, there's more places to stop. -
This thread is from the end of October - they're probably moved by now....
