Someone said it right--your at the lower end of the start-over age range. So HECK NO your not too old.
I'm new on the block and I'm 55, the ole lady started a few years back and she was mid 50's ...we both lost our jobs to
outsourcing. Team driving looked promising until we figured out that living in a closet with each other 23 hours a day
was nearly impossible. So NO--if you can pass your DOT, do a pretrip, lift your butt into the tractor and drive safetly then go for it!
How old is too old to become a trucker?

You might THINK you will like it. Try to ride with someone for a day or two, see what happens. You are not too old,but do your home-work first. Asking advice here is a good start. Keep us advised of your progress.

Heck no..I was 37 when I started and I'm 46 now..Lots of people start late because of downsizing and layoffs..I know people in their 50's and even 60 when they started driving a truck. I know people in their 70's that still drive. I used to work with a guy that was 80 and still driving long haul and the only reason he quit was so he could ride his motorcycle more lol....Just do you're research to make sure that's what you want to get into, because it can be a culture shock..Good luck in whatever you decide.

53 yrs. young and starting my new career. Had a classmate who is 56. The school director was 53 when he got into trucking. It's an industry that welcomes older guys with a good head on their shoulders. I feel that even though I'm a "rookie" at this, I'll learn as I go and do just fine. Plenty of drivers around willing to offer good, sound advice and a helping hand if needed. Great x-section of people in this business.

IT or Trucking? Well let's see here. They both have to put in some really weird hours. They both have to deal with a lot of jerks. Neither one will make you rich.
So, what will it be??????? -
I got my CDL four days after my 40th birthday and haven't looked back. I love what I do and am very glad I changed careers. The time away from home gets old from time to time, but I still enjoy my job. I have been to 46 states in my first 15 months of driving. So like everyone else has said, no, you are not too old.
