Rubbish, I drive both types and it shouldn't matter to a professional driver what gearchange he has, gearchanging isn't rocket science or even hard in any respect!

USXpress is now getting rid of their autos for manuals here at the Delaware, OH dedicated acct. 100 trucks in all here at Kroger. Thank goodness. The newbies are the only ones complaining here. They said they wil be phasing out the autos at other accts also. Costs are getting too high and not getting the fuel mileage of the manuals.

becoming here also now plenty of fh16 610,660, no 700 now some 750

also plenty of fh16 600(612hp) 6x4 , they are quite nice trucks for this they are not expensive(fh16 750 8x4 cost with full equipment 160 000€) , good fuel efficiency , trouble free , and have good pulling power ......and companies are particularly happy with volvo cooling system ..... one company which was loyal to man for last 20+years change man for volvo because of power, reliability , and cooling .....

they were complaining that man cut down retarder power without any warning on steep inclines they run 750 since beginning of this year and they should soon get 7-8 more , also they changed their WSK man´s for mercedes

they run volvo together with scheuerle intercombi about 8lines mostly gross about 170t or 375000lbs hauling transformers

scania offers both 2 and 3 pedal opticruise , you can get it with 8speed for distribution or something , 12speed for heavy distribution or long haulage , 12+2Crawler gear for long haulage or construction , also 12+2 is available in overdrive version as well as HD version for 730hp and extreme mining applications 8+1 and 6speed are not available with auto

3pedal solution cost 1750€ more than manual....but in most countries it is serial equipment , 2pedal solution cost 965€ more than 3 pedal and it include hill holder which cost 350€ for 3 pedal,

in my country most sales are with 3 pedal , it is not as good as 2 pedal but it is cheaper clutch last longer and less things can go wrong ......

this on video is 2pedal version , and you have special maneuvering mode when you push gear level for 2-3seconds downchange it activate this mode , in this mode throttle pedal becomes clutch so you can have very smooth clutch control without hopping without wheel spinning ....this kind of control can be even more precise than manual clutch because manual clutch is not always linear .......of course this require some time to getting used to it is quite strange when right leg control starting ....also if you have to reverse drawbar trailer it can be tricky

    Scania man Thanks this.

it is mercedes , it is called powershift and we have already 3rd generation of it , i think it appeared on market in 2007, we have version of 12 and 16 speed , 16 have double overdrive with 0.69 ratio good for tippers and heavy haulage since it is fast so it release "load" from gearbox with shorted differentials .....

strongest gearbox for now is g330-12 with 2435lb-ft capacity, also there is a special off road version which is adapted for off road driving , it allows higher rpm , shifts faster , it try to avoid to use clutch because this can stop you on terrain is you have power interruption before it mercedes used automated manual syncro transmission with 16speed and it was worst on market

it is truth that this is on webpage but most of trucks with allison are fire trucks and garbage trucks , since until recently in P series 420 was top power most of automatic trucks used to come with engines up to 420

but they exist in larger engines too

there was story year ago on big lorry blog about one day cab r480 from sweden as logging truck hauling 60+/- tons thought forest ....i already forget scania name GA name of gearbox but it was allison 4500series

this r620 have allison 4700 with 7speeds torque is limited , volvo offers allison up to fh16 600(612hp) but dont know is torque limited or it is stay at 2800

    here volvo have:

    d11 460hp and 1586lb-ft (1624lb-ft in renault)

    d13 is now 550hp and 1920lb-ft

    d16 750hp and 2620lb-ft

and i am quite sure that volvo will not stop on this since scania will soon have its engine close to or 800 so volvo is probably preparing something of about 850

also any other engine here which is same or similar to US engine have more power

daf/paccar mx 510 and 1845lb-ft they were plans to get 560 and 2067lb-ft but as much i know only small number of trucks were produced

maxxforce which is quite similar to man engine

    maxxforce 11 =d20 here it have 440hp and 1550lb-ft
    maxxforce 13 =d26 here it have 540hp and 1845lb-ft

man build on maxxforce 15 platform would be 630hp

    mercedes om471 (dd13) is 510hp and 1845lb-ft

    mercedes om472 (dd15) is 615hp

    mercedes om473 (dd16) is 680hp

also we have mercedes om470 which is not available in US with 10.7L 428hp and 1550lb-ft
