Hello to all,
Speaking to a recruiter from Prime recently. I have most of what I need to know about this company, but one huge question remains: does Prime really pay detention after four hours of sitting? Assuming you made your appointment time? That is the official line from at least three of the recruiters. Reading through the various posts here, seems no one really gets paid to sit... at least company drivers. Fifteen bucks an hour to sit and wait. BS or no BS? Your feedback please Prime drivers,
thanks

Youll do better asking in the Prime section....
Yes we get detention IF the customer pays it. Different contracts, different rates...Freezer Burn Thanks this. -
4 hours is a very long time. i am thinking industry standard is 2 hours.it is the only number i have known during my few years whether company or as i am now-
-
When it starts, and how much it is, depends on whats in the contract Prime has with that customer. It can vary greatly from customer to customer.

My company pays $20.00 per hour after two hrs even if the shipper doesn't pay. We don't even have to ask for it, it pops up on the Qc.

Yes but my question is do they pass it on to you? Often, sometimes, or do you have to "remind" them they owe you for that time? I've heard and read the horror stories of the 24 hour and plus wait times, and do you really see like twenty hours of pay for that time?

The horror stories you may have heard are most likely from meat loads that have a large appointment window.. You will often find that a meat load will have a 24 hour or more window. So if you arrive at the front of the window, you may not get out of there untill the drop dead time which is the end of the window and sometimes actually 2 hours after the window.... Normally you will not recieve any detention untill two hours after the end of the window.Freezer Burn Thanks this. -
Yeah, they pay. In fact you will get a msg on the QC if you have been at most receivers at the 2 hour mark. I in fact just had 15 minutes worth of detention paid on my last settlement. BUT you have to make sure you stamp and mark the bills with the times. MY FM is on a big detention kick right now, see a msg every day from him on it lol.

Detention can really add up

Yeah thanks you guys for this info. I've got it down between Prime and Conway TL, leaning toward Prime because of the no-upfront cost schooling. And the high miles I'm hearing, the extra pay for lightweights, and the generally helpful and humorous folks who drive for them. Never worked for a large company before so it would be a change. Been self-employed most of my life as well. Love to drive.
Also, while I've got you guys here, how does per diem work? Just helps you out at tax-time? I'm hoping I can net at least 800 bucks a week on a steady basis. Seems like it is possible at Prime.
