Hello im new and i have maybe a hard question to ask. I enrolled in trucking school about 7 yrs ago. Its all kind of hazy in my memory of exactly what happened but ill try to remember the details i can. I signed up for trucking school and all was going well untill i see something in a manual about some kind of federal law not allowing people with mental issues drive a truck. I realized even if a trucking company hired me i might get fired for having been recently court ordered to a mental institution for evaluation. I had recently been seperated from my wife and to make a long story short i kinda went off the deep end. I took some pills after we had gotten into an argument and after calming down drove myself to the hospital. I was court ordered to get evaluated in a mental institution for 48 hrs. Anyways i thought i better let the people know at the school so i told them the situation and they called the company that was supposed to hire me and they decided they didnt or couldnt (i dont remember which). I do remember being told from the trucking school before they called the trucking company that was supposed to hire me that if it was court ordered then there might be a problem and it was a problem. Im wondering since this was 7 yrs ago would it be wise to try again and if it would still stop me from driving a truck. Im thinking i told them because i thought it would have shown up in my criminal background check. If im not mistaken trucking companies also want your medical records? I dont really remember but it seems like i had to have my medical records released, i may be wrong about that. Thanks
Kicked out of Trucking school 7 yrs ago for disclosing was sent to mental instutution

Far as I know companies dont look at medical records unless you disclose them. Ive never heard of anyone looking at that. Criminal background,,yes they do look at. But from what you posted it sounds real minor. Keep quiet about it and try again.
Good luck. -
Yeah im guessing it would have showed up on my criminal record back then since it was court ordered but could be wrong. I wish i could remember more about the details. I just remember there was some kind of federal law preventing me from driving a truck since i was in that hospital for taking the pills. Im just trying to find out if it would stop me forever. I think ill call a local trucking school to see what they say tomorrow. I have the cash to pay dfor the school but dont wanna pay if im just gonna get kicked out again.

easy way to tell if your meds will pop u positive take a home drug test like from walgreens if your clean dont let them know your on the meds or your background what thbey dont know wont hrt them.

You were sent in for a 48 hr psych eval. Most "suicide" attempts get this. If they released you at the end and did not force you to have counseling then I wouldn't say anything. Go to your court house and have them show you your record. I doubt this is on it. It is also a health record and those are protected by the HIPPA laws. No one can access them with out your permission. If you have not been clinically diagnosed with a mental disorder and been treated then you do not have a mental disorder. Simple depression is iffy but if you have not and do not take prescription drugs for it then no worries. What you went thru us normal and can happen to anyone.
So check your back ground in the county you got the watch order in. If nothing there don't worry. And you know what the diagnosis is so go from there.
I am an EMT and worked in the medical field for 7 years. Just giving my background. Didn't want you thinking I'm speaking from no knowledge.
Sent from somewhere out there on the road.Rollover the Original Thanks this. -
It was 7 yrs ago and im not on meds. I was on meds only for a very short time. Im just worried if it would show in a background check or if they will find in the check i was kicked out of trucking school. Theres no problems now so nothing in my life right now could disqualify me.

Oh and i dont remember having to see anyone. I went on my own a couple times but the doctor told me if he had went through the same thing i had he woulda went crazy also and it was a normal emotional breakdown. Well ill call the school in the morning and see if i can find out anything else. Maybe i had to have my medical records for another purpose around the same time and just thought it was for the trucking school.

Best advice I can give you is to tell the recruiter, if it is a problem they will tell you. If you don't tell them and it shows up on a background check then they may feel that you tried to hide it from them and may boot you for trying to hide it.

Only thing I could advise there is to first find out for sure if you were just evaluated for mental illness, or actually diagnosed and treated for one, and if so, what one. There is a big difference between bipolar manic depression and clinical depression. One may or may not prevent you from driving. Then just start making some calls. Call a good doctor who does medical evaluations and ask. Also, call your state d.o.t office and several companies. You may not like what ya find out nut never hurts to ask.

I found the Medical records i went to get and it also jogged my memory on why i got them. I got the Medical records to see what the diagnosis was and to try to find out if it was court ordered after i got kicked out. It says the diagnosis was "Depression with suicidal idealology". Im guessing thats a short term diagnosis since i dont have those feelings anymore. I think it was court ordered because i was transported by a sherrif. I dont know if it is or was on my criminal record but if it was then it must have been a misdemeanor. I never went to court over it so i dont think it would even be on my record. I think even if it was then it might not even matter since its been over 5 yrs. Ill make some calls tomorrow for sure and update
