Fantastic! Make sure he submits his receipts for the background check...they may reimburse him. The issue probably will be whether he was an employee on the date of the receipt. If so, he should get the 80 or so Bucks back. Also, there may seem like an endless delay waiting for his finisher. Remember, the finisher may have a student in his truck now. He has to get routed to Jopmo, freight comes first, then students, then he has to get the student through the final testing, then he may or may not need a couple days off, the maybe its budda's turn. If the finisher doesn't have a student, he may be on home time or out running solo and needs to get routed back to Jopmo.
I have two suggestions if it is dragging out. One is ask training if it is easier and cheaper to get routed to the finisher. Two is, if he can live with a smoker, or go without cigs let training know he will take the first available. Even if budda smokes, most finishers that don't will allow a smoker in the truck as long as they don't smoke in the truck. I smoke, but don't allow smoking in the truck, but I give the student and me a break every few hours and we step out for some fresh air. Actually, I have been home for a month for some health care and haven't had a smoke, hopefully I can keep it going when I get back.
Even then, I will take a smoking student, just no lighting up in the truck.
Getting the first finisher available may speed the process for budda. His training is going to fly by and the finishing experience should be a good one.
Good luck and have fun!

NOT ANY MORE! I left / resigned from Wally after 9 1/2 years! I'm all setup to go to Conway!
The company just isn't what it use to be. It use to be all about the drivers but it's all about
the company now. -
Does Keturah still work for Con-way?

Hello all! just had my orientation date scheduled with conway truckload and will be attending on 2/11. i was wanting to ask about the road test and the agility testing.
1st. The agility test i know is lifting a few weights and carying them the length of a trailer, duffle bag over head etc.. What i am wondering about is the blood pressure readings after the test. Do they allow time for it to go back down before testing it, or do they check it right after? And if so if exceeds the 140/90 mark is that a automatic disqualification, or do they have a mark it can not go by?
2nd. The road test, what all is done and where do they take you thru city, back road etc... and on the 13spd what if you miss a gear or two is this a disqualifying factor?
Thanks for replying in advance. -
The agil test is based on your heart rate for your age. If your heart rate goes above the MAX they will fail you for the agil test. The road test is a few miles 2 or 3. With a couple of turns throughout Joplin(if doing at Joplin). Dont sweat doing the 13 speed its not hard just drive it like a 9. They are mainly looking to see if you can control the truck and be a safe driver. There's more to orientation then just these things though. I'll leave that to when you arrive though.roadhog2012 Thanks this. -
What is orientation like with conway? Very aggressive, very detailed or what? Also if they do schedule you for orientation does this mean all checks (Previous employment, criminal accident history etc..) have came back? Only had 1 and thats when i 1st started driving very minor.

Gotta throw in my 2 penneys here. If you are thinking about going with Conway Truckload, do yourself a favor. Dont! The miles are terrible and the pay is equally poor as a result. Now, theres going to be a rebuttal to my post from some Conway Drivers/ Recruiters saying how good Conway is to work for and that if I had any problems working there, I must have been doing something wrong. To which I respectfully will answer, Bee Ess. I busted my tail there, almost never went home, did everything and more of what was asked of me. And, I am speaking on behalf of almost every other Conway driver that I met while there. You will average about $400.00 -$750.00 a week. Sometimes even less. Team drivers make a little more but, you will have to live with some other clown in a little box 24 hours a day and never leave the truck. Here is something that I will now say that you wont hear from most others posting in here; Dont believe anything in this forum, including my own posts; except for this: Personally go to any truck stop (Pilot, TA, Petro, Loves, etc.) and talk to as many Conway Truckload drivers as possible. An easy thing to do. Ask them about their average miles over the past 6 months to a year. Even the drivers with alot of experience are choking. This will save you alot of heartache in the future. Conway has a HUGE (as do most other mega carriers) turnover. No, not because they are growing; its because after about a year or so, most drivers know that they deserve much better and they move on. This job pays so poorly that it is easily replaced. Wal-Mart, Pizza Hut, CVS Drugstores, etc. pays just as well and you dont have to live away from home to work there.

Thats most OTR Jobs tho where you work for a company.. CSA rules have destroyed truck drivers along with all the other BS regulations and not to mention the wages havent went up in over 20 years if not longer. I've heard good things about conway tho if you are a city driver. Don't really know a lot about it tho.

Trust me i believe anything is better then working for the great wal-mart. Have a friend who works there making a huge whopping check of $230.00 a week! And that's with 40 a week. So basically he's only making around 7.45 an hour. But at least he's working.
-
True, but at Conway Truckload (as with all other mega carriers), you will work upwards of 100 hours a week for sometimes less than $500.00. That comes out to $5.00 an hour. Remember, it doesnt matter which "line" you are on on your elogs. Wheather driving or waiting, you can never leave the truck.
