My co-driver and I currently have one of the old 24000 series KW T660 Studio Sleepers which we are going to be getting rid of and have some questions about the trucks we might be getting into now.
All information is greatly appreciated!
Some of the main things we are wondering (that I can think of right now):
1. Are the top bunks in the Peterbuilt and Volvo fixed in position or can they be raised and fastened up? (I already know that the international's bunk is fixed in the down position.
2. Is the mattress in the Volvo comfortable? I know its segmented so that it works for the benches when you open up the table but does that make it uncomfortable to sleep on?
3. How big is that table in the volvo? In the only picture I could find it looked very small. How much room is between the edge of the table and the back of the seat? Would someone who is pretty big be able to sit at it comfortably?
4. Do the Volvo and Internationals have wall type outlets like the Peterbuilts do?
5. Do the Volvo and Internationals cut off after 5 mins like the Peterbuilts do?
That's all I can think of right this moment but any information and/or pictures are greatly appreciated!
Need Truck Info on Volvo, Peterbuilt, and International's!

Do you drive for Con-way? I am pretty sure that Con-way orders them a set way.

Katey get a Prostar lots of room and bunk is very comfy. I travel with my husband full time and he's a company driver with Conway. Lots of storage and bigger then the KWs, Also in our we have a 1500 inverter and no it does not shut off after 5 mins the only issue we have every now and then is with the DPF but it's not a big deal. Also I don't know how big you or your co-driver but my husband and I are big (he's 6'2, 380) and we have plenty of room, if you want I can email you some pics of the inside of the truck. My email address is alacalihoma80@gmail.com

Katey ...we are trading ours in Sept as well...I'm leaning to the Volvo ...I've had one yrs ago and the ride was great...I talked to a husband / wife team in a Pete and she said its was kinda short on storage ...she also said the were going to order some kw 680's with the swiveled passenger seat ....I'd prob stat away from the international as they seem to be breakdown nightmares and are also on the list to get rid of ALL by the end of this year
-
Oh ...ALL the new trucks will have a 1500w inverter installed and the new gps/nav system
-
Isn't that awesome! Personally, I think it's great the things that Con-way takes care of for the drivers. A navi system is not cheap, nor is an inverter. It's also great that the XM radio is included. Little things yes, but comfort items all the same that they don't have to do!

Yep I have Sirius (no pun) withdraw's when on hometime ...not sure how the Nav is working but good it's there...now if they would just pop for a fridge filling with liquids....hmm ya!

Thank you for the information! I have seen inside of a Prostar before, it's just been a little while and I didn't remember the details for sure. I remember loving the amount of storage and the space inside. My big concern with them is that everyone says they break down alot and that the shops are awful. How long have y'all been in yours?
We? I thought you were solo? I must have missed you teaming up again. I haven't been on the forums much in a while.
I like what I have heard about the Volvo's for the most part. The table is a really neat idea. I am not so sure how I feel about an autoshift though. I don't really know much about them yet either though so I'm not gonna judge.
I have been inside a Pete and although I like that they are tall and wide, they didnt seem to have enough cabinet or floor space. I also don't like the 5 minute shut off timer deal but thats probably gonna be unavoidable soon anyway.
The reason I'm so skeptical about the internationals is that I heard the same thing as you about break downs but then I have also talked to a few drivers who have had them for long periods of time with no problems.
I talked to the head of truck assignment today and from what he told me, they are not getting rid of all the internationals, in fact he still has new internationals coming in. They have those and Volvo's coming in at the moment and the trucks for next year haven't even been confirmed.
At this point we are "approved to trade to a different team truck" it's just a matter of timing and figuring out what we want. He said we can wait until they finish giving the Volvo's to people with medical problems and then get in one of those or we can call anytime we are at a terminal or drop yard where they keep trucks and see what is available there and possibly get into something that way. -
Volvo's are all automatic and going to people with bad knees and hips. All others will be in the Pete's.
