Its mechanically governed at 2750rpm, but I'm not running those low RPMs by choice. Its the top speed at full throttle under a load. I'd keep it around 2200rpm all day if it'd ever get up there and stay there.

Marine forums are where I've had to get most of my info since nobody really likes to mention they have a 903 in their truck, for obvious reasons.

When you say loose end of the spec, do you mean go slightly over the maximum tolerance, or just don't leave too much drag on the feeler gauge?

Any info on rack adjustments? I'm sure its in my field guide, but its far from a pleasure reading through a poorly put together photocopy of military documents.

Thanks for the tip on the shop. If I can find a load around Des Moines, I can take the back roads out there, and swing by their Fort Dodge location.

I guess power hasn't really been much of an issue the last few weeks. Maybe I've been knocking some gunk out of the fuel system (bunch of black stuff runs out of the hoses when I disconnect them), or maybe I'm just getting used to driving an older loaded truck.

I've been noticing a bit of valve float under a heavy load, though, which strikes me as odd since I can't run over 10psi boost. I'm guessing my valves are about due for adjustment? I've got a bit of an oil leak problem, so I'd like to get in some new valve cover gaskets, and it'd be a great time to swap out whichever injector it is that isn't pulling its own weight.

Been looking at the procedure on valve adjustment in my military field guide, and it looks like I'll be needing a dial gauge as well as some other tools to get the injectors set once I'm in there. Anyone know of a good source for these specialty tools? Any brands in particular that are more trusted by techs?

all we ever used to measure valve lash and injectors was feeler gages.

Well that's a relief. That's all I've ever used, too. If I had the torx sockets needed to get my driver's side valve cover off (and proper hex heads to replace the with once they're out), this is probably would be something I'd do tonight.

I use Hoffmann fuel injector service in newark delaware for my injector rebuilds. They are knowledgeable and very professional. If you can't find anyone else give them a try as they do it in house.
