Hi everyone.
I am here at the newbie and try to search alots of topic on the internet but i found no info that helped. I have a driver reported that my truck no power when he going up hill, before the hill he has 70 mph but on the midlle of the hill his speed dropped down very fast to 15-20 mph, i told him put in freightliner and they took 1 day for diagnostic, read ecm code etc... total charge $370 and release my truck with statement nothing wrong with it, no check engine light and truck doing good :0.... i trust my driver about the shifting, driving all that things cause he driving for us 2 years already, he help us finish the load and bring that unit into the terminal, we doing leak check all around from turbo to CAC to Intake but no leak at all. Another driver volunteer doing a shot run 100 mile test drive with light loaded on the trailer and he told me the same problem that first driver reported, for the normal road the engine doing very good but hitting hill, his speed dropped very fast and he has to drive into the shoulder with 4 way flashing... he pull that unit into TA for general diagnostic and got same statement with freightliner but different charge: $102 for the services.
_ I Dunt know if my problem sound similar with someone out there who deal with this before?... this is 2004 freightliner columbia, 14 littler 2 month old egr vale and egr hornet , 13 sp and 430 hp
Thanks alots for your time, all advise input deeply help alots and appreciated(((((((((((((
Freightliner and TA said my ENGINE is good but it no good at all...

Engine derating. Might be best to test with a dyno, but
Sounds like the turbo not kicking in due to a vpod not activating.
Emissions related. EGR an suchOpNJ Thanks this. -
Did you have the dealership do a "shot run". I don't even know what that is. Your info is quite vague, not to mention you writin skills. From what little info you have divulged I take it you got a 04 Columbia with a Detroit?... How have you been on maintenance?
-
If this happend with VPOD and EGR then if i send it to mr.PDI in this forum to delete egr system on my truck do u think problem will be gone? or i still have to replace VPOD if it going bad?.
thanks Blanco... -
yeah i got 04 columbia with detroit engine, i dont think dealer doing "short run" test for us but they do dyno on my truck for sure, because i know diagnostic dealer only charge some where less than $120 right.

Price sounds fair, still not sure what you are asking. VPOD is going to cost @350-400 exchange, a VERY common repair. Not sure thats your problem though. 99% of the time the VPOD is gonna flip a code. Turbo actuator, bad fuel/air filter etc can all cause similar problems. I'm not a mechanic, just a partsguy. Know a great mechanic...My only advice.

my problem is: how come my truck running great on the normal road, but when it hitting the hill, the truck become to no power, now my question is: If Vpod going bad, then my ecm should pickup some code from vpod rite?. then how come my driver said there no check engine light when engine hitting hill, TA and Freightliner said i have no code on my ecm.
If i send my truck to do egr bypass, can i just leave bad vpod there or i still have to replace it to fix the problem?...
Thanks for ur time and advise PeterLiner...mecho57 Thanks this. -
Do you know a GOOD Detroit mechanic. If not I have many reccomendations but, they aint cheap. Plus you probably live 3000 miles away from me. The EPA04 Detroit is not a simple beast. There are so many parts and service nuances to your motor. If you tell me what region you live in I can reccomend a GOOD mechanic. This will take a day or two though.

So "Peachtree" is your FL dealer in Georgia. I suggest dealing with them, have them do the"short run" under the same conditions.
I don't know which Freightliner Dealer is your local, but I suggest you spend a little time and money there. You will get to know some good people(At all OEM dealers). Not just staff, you will also meet local mechanics. Outside of your dealership options, there are usually some great local mechanics, they "shop" at the dealers. Trust me.
