I have seen a few articles in here about drivers quitting a job either during orientation or later on down the road. In a few of these cases, the drivers complained about the companies retaliating by trashing thier dac. How then can you quit (especially during orientation) with out a company trashing your good name? Any ideas or personal experiences would be appreciated. I'm sure most drivers will go to an orientation eventually where the recruiter lied a lot and company was unbearable. (not that a recruiter would lie...) Especially since not all companies have been written about here yet. Maybe over time, that will change as the word spreads about this great site.

Best way to avoid that .... make sure the company that you are going to is one that you want to be at
Dont go in there blind about EVERYTHING .... trucking is NOT a job for some people .... the company that I am there were 3 of us in orientation .... I am the lone ranger out of them now
One had an attitude of "I know it all" .... the other realized on the road that this wasnt a job for him .... both HOPEFULLY will get tagged with quit under dispatch .... ONLY because of the way they left
The attitude one went with the trainer long enough to hitch a ride home .... the other one disappeared with all his gear while the trainer was in the truckstop
To many people people are coming out of school expecting to much and then realize its not for them .... I have done OTR before so this is nothing new to me other than running a flatbed this time
Just make sure that you are going to stick to it when you go to the company .... if in orientation you dont want it .... make sure to talk to someone about it and explain the situation .... some companies wont care and may still tagged you for it .... others will understand and let it be at that

You know that is kind of hard to know what company you want to be with if all they do is lie to you. here is an example
of of last week, i was going to go to swift to do my 6 months and split. ( i have driven for over 4 yrs. but took a few off for kids ) then i was going to go to a company that i am wanting to be with. but here is the thing
my out of office recruiter for swift lied to me about everything and anything imaginable. he even had my landlord wanting to go to swift. something was fishy from what i had heard in this forum and called swift's safety division to check it out, knowing mind you , i knew the real answer,
well they sat there on the phone and said he had lied to me, they also stated that they were telling me the truth, when i told them that my best friend was sitting next to me and a safety director of her family's company, without even asking me who i was they hung up.
i called back and demanded being taken off the list for orientation, all they would tell me was i have to speak to my recruiter, well, i left numberous messages for him, emails, etc requesting ( still being professional about it ) to be taken off that list. come to find out as of yesterday, i am still yet on that list for the 26th to the 28th of nov with swift. and i have been requesting this since monday.
on wednesday i spoke to another company, schneider and that recruiter more or less lied to be about the same things that swift did, then it was a call to usxpress, and yet the same.
i called jb hunt was was ok with what they said, i didnt like it, but they were more honest then the others..
i called prime, and talked to them about everything, i really did not like what they were telling me, but i come to find out, i really didnt like it, but they were actually telling me the truth .. so they scored a point with me ...
i called werner and got the same deal i did with prime
thursday i called PAM and , i do have to say, i know recruiters lie to you to get you in that orientation, but when the recruiter is telling you everything you do NOT want to hear, there is something to it. I did my research and come to find out, i have had 3 recruiters in a ton of calls tell me the truth even though i didnt want to hear it .
the 3 i am leaning towards is Prime, Werener and PAM.
I called Barr-nunn cause i will admit , I am a huge fan of Barr-nunn. I personally known some drivers for barr-nunn since i lived in iowa years ago and some have mentored me froom truck driving school to the day i left the industry for my kids.
i learned alot from a driver named Destry who once told me and I quote
" Bubba I have been driving for 28 years, and I have yet to know everything there is to know about trucking, stay away from the drivers who say they do know it all and stay away from the companies who will agree to what you want and say they can help you with it all. If you find a driver who says what he tells you is his opinion, you may want to listen. there will be good and bad views on every company. the world is not perfect."
I kept that in my head and in my mind for many years, and now that he is gone, i am thinking of him more now than ever trying to decide where i want to go.
I know that was rambling, but the point is, Destry made me think back then, in 1996 when I first went to trucking school and 11 1/2 yrs later, I am learning it again. -
Bad thing is while you are trying to get off the S list (swift) for orienatation they will probably ding your DAC for not showing up!

I am quite sure that they will .... that is the way swift is
As for Werner .... dont know much about them .... but the paperless logs will hurt you later on .... if you decide to go somewhere else .... you will have to be trained how to do real logs again
I have also heard bad things about the paperless log system that they have and have caused problems for drivers .... the company that I am with has no qualcomm and its all paper .... I like it that way .... no eye in the sky
And out of the companies that I have been with .... they are probably the best company out there .... they actually DO care about the drivers
