Yes detention pay is would be the plus? Unless you were an O/O with your own authority I imagine waiting could get expensive. Unless you can charge the broker/shipper/receiver :biggrin_25512:

Or as a company driver they give you an appt date but say you can go early... Then by early they mean before the lumpers go home. You ask for an appt time and they resend your load info like you can't read. Then you go to the shipper and they say, oh, those loads never have a set time. They take them or they don't. May be the en of the day. Started at midnight, left at lunch. But you better believe I jumped in the sleeper because throwing a fit might or might not work, but sitting still another day definitely would not pay.

Go ahead and drive 13 1/2 hours. The first scale that checks your log book will put you out of service, and write you a ticket for every day you do that. Sounds like you need a log book refresher course.

I'm still trying to figure out why everyone wastes a half an hour for pre-trips and post trips.
    http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/rules-regulations/administration/fmcsr/fmcsrruletext.aspx?reg=396.13
396.13 definitely states that each driver must do a pre-trip inspection, which does average about 15 minutes if done properly. But, why does it take you so long to sign your name to the post-trip report, required by http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/rules-regulations/administration/fmcsr/fmcsrruletext.aspx?reg=396.11 396.11 Driver vehicle inspection report(s). Are you so tired at the end of your day you have trouble holding onto your pen?

What four hours? 11 hours driving, plus 10 hour break, equals 21 hours. There are only 24 hours in a day, so that leaves 3 hours, then knock off 1/2 hour for the 2 required pre-trip inspections, now you have 2 1/2 hours.

the greater YOU i guess only applies to reefer haulers i suppose. Today i drove 4 hours another 45 minutes on duty 2 stops and my 14 was gone. So i dont worry about running 10-11 hours i know i will get a slow day in there to make up for it

and dr dave are you saying it is illeagal to run 10 hours take a 10 break and run 3 more in a 24 hour period
    I don't think so

It also helps to drive at night, less traffic equals more miles in the same amount of time and there are always parking spots in the morning at truck stops!
