I will be starting on Aug 13th in Ellenwood. I know some of the trucks have APU's and some have those battery packs. I have had an APU in the past and loved it since the heat, A/C, and inverter were all included. I have heard that the battery packs do not come with an inverter and that the A/C does not work as well as those on an APU. Is the company going to put batt packs in all the new trucks? Any comments are greatly welcome!

I turn off my ac at night because my ac is too cold. I have battery packs, my charge gets low the truck auto-starts by itself and you cant tell the truck is running or its on compaired to the apu rattle. Plus when the ac kicked on with the fan it was as loud as if it was a reefer. Ive had people get out of their trucks to see if I was a reefer. I run dry van just a loud ##### fan. I like battery packs better, their quieter and work just as well if not better. I dont see a apu as being better. I dont have a inverter and bought a 100W 12 volt plug in for my lap top that works just fine. I dont have a cooler or fridge. Most of the time the inverter didnt work or burned out anyway. The new trucks have battery packs already and the old have apu's. One or the other no converting that would cost money. Ive seen a prostar with a apu once in gary while fueling.

My battery pack works fine. I run the A/C on low all night and it doesn't drain the batteries. The battery packs on the Cascadia are "deep cycle" and separate from the regular truck batteries. They are between the frame where the regular batteries used to be and the truck batteries are on the drivers side next to the DEF tank. The Cascadias don't have an auto start, but I have never run the batteries down. The manual says 8 hours of driving will full charge them, but I've never had them dead, so I don't know how long it would really take to fully charge them. The heat is the same as the old Wabasto heaters, but it is made by Freightliner. It's a diesel drip heater. As for an inverter, I never had an APU at Roehl, I went from an old 9400i with just a bunk heater to a Cascadia with the "ParkSmart" system. Roehl will install an inverter for you. You buy the inverter, (1000 watt max I think), and then they install it for a few hundred dollars. Someone else on here could probably give you some better info on that.
