Thanks for the thread and info. I'm on Ritalin and getting ready to start school. I told them about it but my drug test showed nothing which surprised me. I too hope it is never an issue that keeps me from getting or keeping a job.

They test for thc, cocaine and acid. I have many friends that swallow pain pills by the bucket and have been driving trucks for years.

The DOT 5 panel tests for Meth, THC, Opiates, Amphetamines, and Cocaine. The tests given by the carriers sometimes include other drugs, too, such as benzodiazepines and anti depressants.

chompi, you know me you're going to have to show that one in the books. I have never read where it says I can not take my medical medication 24 hrs before I drive. If there is such a law it would have to be listed in other pubs besides the DOT ones.

Cmon Gashauler you know better than that! Unless you pullin my leg! You can't take opiates or narcotics even if prescribed while driving. Anybody can get a prescription for drugs in less than an hour and with that being said every driver out there would be poppin something!

The lady in the safety dept where we were employed had just told my wife 24hours because she said that was how long it would take to be out of her system were they to drug test her. So she legally had a prescription but wasn't allowed to drive until her meds were out of her system. She had other meds too that were fine to take while driving but not the opiates. We had to get a hotel room until she was done.

i have a presciption for tylenol 3 that i take when the pain is bad. i came up positive on a drug test once for it. i showed the dr my bottle showing it was legal and the note from my dr saying i was safe to take them while driving. he said he didnt like it and didnt agree with it but it was legal and there was nothing he could do about it.

That's a company policy. You and I both know it's not smart and would not do it but it's NOT illegal. If a doctor say OK then you're covered as far as the law.
