Dragon and heavy. If you are going to be taking a computer to school it would be great if you wanted to post your experieances on the follow me through central training thread, we need some updated experieances as they have changed the training a little bit.
Thanks -
PSUMOOSE I will be attending training on Sept 3. I will be sure to update that Thread. Also while at training do they have Wifi? What about boots, do I have to wear any special type or can I get away with my regular shoes?
-
I'd wear comfortable shoes. Closed toe and heel of course, but that parking lot in salt lake is insanely hot. Was glad I left my work boots at the house. Then after that you'll be in and out of a truck all day.

Looks like I should get CA assistance to pay for Roadmaster. I'm waiting on supervisor to return to office next week to sign off on that determination.
Thanks Rugerfan. I'm keeping Swift in mind, especially since I've watched E's vids.
Thanks PSUMoose. Schneider has actually been on my short list since late last year. They no longer run their own school, but put recent grads thru their own training program after orientation that builds on the school quite a bit.
I'm also looking at some driver starter flatbed companies.
I know it's going to work out. I'm a firm believer that if stuff like this happens, timing isn't right, it's because something better for me is right around the corner. It worked out ok. I was back home to help when the exterminator came. Gives me time to fix the shed roof leaks before I go. I get to go through a school and get all my endorsements at once, AND have a chance at one of those top 20 companies. AND I probably don't even have to pay the DMV fee, if I recall correctly. Do I have to put up with hype to sign on with Werner? Yeah, but I spent 9 years in the Never Again Volunteer Yourself company. I think I can resist Werner's temptation. And I already know where the yard is from 17 years ago.

PSUMoose I do plan on bringing my computer, I will do my best to keep u all updated with how it goes. I'll be doing the refresher course. Got my bus info today so I'll be heading out on sat night

the asphalt in salt lake is nothing compared to the asphalt down south where it's 115.
doubtful you'll find any flatbed company till you get experience first. and flat sucks this time of year and winter time of year. most loads are tarped. who the heck wants to untarp to unload then reload and retarp in phoenix. -
Been reading on here for a couple of months. Just decided to join up. I first want to thank all the drivers on here that post, and make some sense of things for us newbie/wannabe's like myself. I have read through this thread and the thread Bigrigg started on Central training as well. Enjoyed both very much. A big thanks to bigrigg and PSUMoose for all their contributions.
Am looking to go to truck driving school around the middle to end of September. I'm looking at Central. I know there are no perfect companies, especially for us guys or gals just trying to break into the industry. But from everything that you guys have talked about it seems it would be a perfect fit for what I am looking for. Honestly I can easily see myself following down your same trails PSUmoose. With the exception of the training. Like Big rigg, I enjoy the solitude. I can't wait to get this going. Tried to go last year at this time, but I had a friend of mine leave on deployment for the National Guard to Khandahar, Afghanistan and she asked me if I would stay and help watch her 2 and 4 year old boys. I felt the need to do so, i"m sure ya'll know what I mean. Well thank God she comes home is September. Missed her a lot. But that means it is time for me to do this! Love travelling, love driving and seeing this beautiful country of ours, and can't stand for anyone to drive but me. Solitude doesnt bother me, and love the idea of making money. So I am psyched and ready!!!
I know the road isnt easy, necessarily. I know the richness isnt there, but the job i have now pays 900 a month and the job before it paid 1100 a month. So any money is money to me. And when it is something you really want to do, it isnt hard work as much as it is a challenge.
Now I am leaning central, but am also considering stevens and FFE. I wanna drive, and run miles. Dont care about a bunch of hometime, if I wanted that at the moment I would just stay home.
Now I do have a couple of questions. Do you guys think I will be fine to be approved at Central with:
work history- chef at a local restaurant from 1989-july 2011. I got fired from the restaurant because myself and the new GM did not see eye to eye. He was a complete asswhole douche, and I don't care for asswhole douches. Then, worked at a call center from august, 2011 to march, 2012. Then I got fired from there because I was late a couple times due to interviews for toyota factory that ran late. My current job is inspecting houses. Have had that from june until now.
My drug test will pass easily. My criminal background will pass easily.
My MVR: in the mid 1990's i had a suspended license for forgetting to pay a speeding ticket of 70 in a 55. Fixed that then, have only had one ticket since for expired tag about 7 or 8 years ago. Clean record otherwise.
Had a hernia surgery in january, 2011. I am all good now. Do not have to report to any doctors on it, and lift plenty with no problems.
Do i sound hireable to Central?
Also, I wanted to ask what the driving time is like. Been trying to understand the "70" and the reset thing. Like how long can u drive in a day, or a week? What do you drive 10 hours then rest for 14 for a typical day? If you wanna break and stretch, do u just stop when u want and do so? Does that count on the allowable drive time?
Would love to have PSUMoose train me, that would be awesome to me. Sounds like I can learn a lot. Not that I couldnt from any one of you guys. -
Kmttv12 about the hours as you can drive 11 hours a day in a 14 hour window so once you start driving you have14 hours to drive 11 hours correct me if im wrong also you have to have a 10 hour break
